Chapter Twenty
“Hey buddy,” Alexa called out to Jace as soon as she opened the door to his room and saw his eyes open.
Jace fixed his eyes on the place the voice that called him was coming from, sighed, and looked away.
Alexa’s heart fell at what he did.
He was still angry at her and she couldn’t blame him for that.
She caused it.
Alexa walked toward him and sat on his bed.
It was then she noticed another presence in the room.
She looked up and her gaze locked with that of a little girl.
Alexa quickly sized her up.
Judging from her small, round oval face, tiny pointed nose, small cherry lips, and how long her legs were on the bed, Alexa concluded she’d not be more than 9-10 years old.
There was something else she noticed about the little girl.
She was thin.
Like, not the normal thin stature.
She looked slightly underweight.
The girl started squirming in discomfort and soon, Alexa realized it was because of her.
She’d been staring at the girl too long and she calculated, that if she was in the girl’s position, she’d not be comfortable too.
“Hey.” Alexa gave her a small smile and the little girl smiled back.
“Hi.”ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .
“How’re your cherry lips?” Alexa asked.
“I’m fine, I’m not feeling great though.” The little girl replied and Alexa’s face fell.
“Why are you not feeling great?” Alexa asked her.
“I’m sick.”
“What’re you sick from?”
“I don’t know… It’s something concerning my stomach and underweight though.” The girl replied.
“Oh. I’m sorry about that.” Alexa said.
“You’ll be fine soon.” She added and smiled.
“Thanks.” The girl smiled back at her, then turned to Jace.
“Jace, who’s she?” She asked Jace and he bit his lip.
“She’s my… She’s my…” Jace stammered and Alexa felt bad.
Jace didn’t want to tell the little girl about their relationship.
It wasn’t his fault though, she caused it, but she’d like it better if he forgave her and not make her feel bad all the time.
“She’s your what?” The girl asked, urging Jace to complete his sentence.
“She’s my… Ugh…” Jace couldn’t still bring himself to talk, so Alexa decided to come in between before it got more awkward than it was now.
“I’m Alexa. I’m his elder sister.” Alexa helped out.
“Oh… I’m Blossom.”
“Your name is cute. It suits you perfectly. Your lips are in a cute cherry shape, so Blossom perfectly fits you.”
“Thank you, Alexa. By the way, I love your name too” Blossom complimented.
Alexa’s cheek flushed slightly red.
“Thank you, Hunny”
“Anyway, Jace.” Blossom started and Jace turned to her.
“Why couldn’t you tell me she was your sister?”
“Because I didn’t think I had one!” Jace blurted out and Alexa opened her mouth but quickly closed it before Blossom turned to her.
“Huh?” Blossom asked in utter confusion.
“Ugh Blossom, what Jace means is…” Alexa started but she couldn’t find suitable words to complete the sentence she started.
“Is what?” Blossom asked inquisitively.
This little girl was a little bit too poky and Alexa didn’t like it one bit.
I mean… Couldn’t she just let the topic die naturally?
“Jace is a little forgetful sometimes. You see, he fainted when I wasn’t home, so there’s a possibility that he hit his head on the floor when he fainted.”
Alexa lied and by now, her fingers were at the point of breaking.
She’d squeezed and twisted them to the extent they began to hurt.
“Oh…” Blossom made a little ‘O’ with her lips to signify she now understood and Alexa sighed in relief.
She didn’t usually lie well and go unnoticed, but thanks to this little girl not knowing her, she’d lied and was getting away from it.
Jace huffed.
He couldn’t believe Alexa.
So now she’d become a professional liar?
He had almost believed her, but when he remembered she was referring to him and calling him forgetful when he was not, he realized she was lying.
If not that and the continuous twisting of her fingers, he had completely believed her.
“I’m sorry about your forgetful habits Jace. You should take more vitamin, zinc, and calcium supplements to make your brain more enhanced.” Blossom advised.
Jace chuckled.
If only this girl knew what happened.
He was surely not forgetful at all.
“I sure will. Thank you, Blossom.” Jace replied very amusedly at what just went down.
A nurse walked in at that very moment and walked to Blossom’s bed.
“Hey, girlie… How’re you doing?” The nurse asked while injecting a liquid substance into the syringe in her hand.
“I’m a fine nurse. Just a little bit weak.” Blossom answered.
“That’s good news. About feeling weak, don’t worry. You’ll get better.” The nurse threw a smile at her.
“Are you going to give me that?” Blossom asked pointing to the syringe in the nurse’s hand.
“Yes.”
“Is it going to hurt?” She asked the nurse.
“Yes… A little. But it’s to make you feel better. You do want to get better right?” The nurse asked.
“Yes… Of course.”
“Then turn around and give me your butt.” The nurse said.
“Isn’t it wrong if he sees it?” Blossom whispered and asked pointing towards Jace.
“Don’t worry. He won’t.” The nurse whispered back and Blossom smiled.
“Alright then.” She said.
The nurse gave Blossom a shot and soon, she was fast asleep.
When Alexa was sure the little girl was sleeping, she sighed and turned to Jace.
That girl was someone you wouldn’t want to be interrogated by.
“Hey… Guess what I brought.” Alexa said to Jace in an excited tone.
“I don’t want to see,” Jace replied dryly.
“I know you don’t… But you’d surely love it if it was…” Alexa said and trailed off as she dipped her hand inside her purse.
“… This!” She completed and put her hand in front of Jace.
“What’s this? A paper?” Jace laughed hysterically.
“So what you got me was a paper?”
Alexa thinned her lip.
Jace was being rude, and she hated it.
She didn’t care if she hit him.
He was sure going to stop speaking so rudely to her.
“Just look into it first.” Alexa bit her lip, but Jace didn’t budge.
“My arm’s starting to hurt kiddo!” She glared at him and Jace reluctantly collected it from her.
“So what’s this? A poem?”
“Turn to the back and stop getting on my nerves” Alexa scolded.
“So… A signature. Wait!” Jace looked closely into the paper.
“Isn’t this Anderson I see inside this signature?” Jace asked.
“Yes.”
“Why’s his name inside this signature? It can’t be…?”
“It’s what it is,” Alexa said.
“But wait… How’d you get this? Did you both meet?”
“Yes. And now I’m employed under him.” Alexa smiled.
“OMG!!!” Jace screamed.
