Chapter 4 Care to Join?
Upon entering the bedroom to freshen up, Alicia felt a noticeable change in her body.
A chill ran through her heart.
Her mother-in-law was ruthless. She had spiked both her and Edmond's soup, ensuring that neither could escape.
Alicia, however, had sworn she would never sleep with Edmond again. So, after emerging from the bedroom, she rolled up a towel into a barrier and placed it in the middle of the bed.
"This is our boundary. Be careful not to cross it, or I'll kick you to death."
"Can you be sure that you won't cross this boundary?"
"Don't worry. I'm allergic to scumbags."
Edmond snickered and turned off the light.
As darkness enveloped the room, Alicia nearly jumped out of her skin.
The bedroom ceiling was covered in heart-shaped glow-in-the-dark stickers, emitting a ghastly green light in the dark.
"You've cheated on me, and now you're mocking me with these luminous heart stickers plastered all over the ceiling?"
Alicia, in her frustration, threw a kick at him.
The man caught her ankle in his palm, and his touch sent a shiver up her spine.
His deep, magnetic voice carried a hint of tease. "Let's be clear. Who was the first to betray whom?"
"Let go."
"Stay still."
She froze as he leaned in, his hot body radiating heat against hers.
She ordered, "Get away from me."
In the darkness, Edmond chuckled, "Didn't we have a good time last time? Why are you rejecting me now?"
"You claimed you weren't interested in me, yet you still made a move that day. So you mean, you can change your mind, but I can't?"
"I moved my lips."
"And you think that's okay?"
He leaned forward, pressing his forehead against hers, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "If you don't remember what happened that night, I don't mind re-enacting it for you."
"I don't want to hear it."
"It was you who initiated things that night."
"Bullshit, it was you who pinned me against the wall first."
"You were looking at me just like you are now, hoping I'd get closer." Just as Alicia was ready to rebuke him, about to label him as an average but self-assured man, Edmond chimed in again, "Accommodating you is not entirely out of the question."
Furious, Alicia tried to hit him, but the drug her mother-in-law had used was potent. Her feeble hits were perceived by Edmond as shy resistance.
He knew her weak spots, and soon, she was running out of defenses.
Her breathing grew heavier.
Suddenly, the ring of a phone broke the tense atmosphere. Seizing the opportunity, she tried to kick him, but Edmond deftly avoided the attack.
He jumped off the bed and grabbed the phone from the table, retreating to the balcony to answer it.
From her position, Alicia could vaguely hear a coquettish voice on the other end of the line. "Edmond... I'm so scared...Where are you?"
Soon, the balcony door was shut, and Alicia could no longer hear the conversation.
By the time Edmond returned from his call, she had come out of the bathroom. She brushed her teeth for the second time, vigorously wiping her lips that he had just kissed.
Their fiery tension had ebbed, leaving her full of disdain.
Without a word, he strode past her, took a shower, changed into his casual clothes, and walked out the door.
Alicia ignored him completely, busying herself with her phone and looking at pictures of handsome men, not caring where he was going or who he was going to meet.
She remembered their wedding day. They indulged in passionate moments until late in the night, only for him to rush off early in the morning after receiving a call from another woman.
She knew that in this arranged marriage, if she became serious, she would lose.
So, she did not hold the slightest hope for Edmond.
She needed to be pragmatic. Hoping for a playboy to change his ways was harder than making a billion dollars.
Downstairs, a thunderous sound erupted. "Edmond! I forbid you from seeing that woman! Come back here!" Content is property of NôvelDrama.Org.
Followed by the sound of something breaking, then the sound of a sports car engine roaring, gradually fading away.
Alicia, with a nonchalant roll of her eyes, pulled the blanket over herself and drifted off to sleep. Without that scumbag by her side, she slept peacefully, albeit a bit feverish.
At six in the morning, she woke up and unlocked her phone. There was a strange email waiting for her. It contained a photo of Edmond sleeping on a bed, taken by a woman who didn't show her face but was clearly in the frame.
The attached message was smug. [Your husband is now in my bed.]
Alicia chuckled and casually sent back a picture of herself in bed with another man.
[I'm a bit busy here, so who are you? Care to join? This handsome guy's skills are superior to Edmond, darling.]
