table.

Derick shook his hand while wiping his due. “Has Madeline not replied to your message or contacted you?”

Chris remained silent. Derick aimed at the most awkwardly positioned ball on the table. With a sharp sound, the ball traced a beautiful arc across the table. and dropped into a pocket.

“It doesn’t make sense. She didn’t seem to care when you spoke to her like that and didn’t argue with you. Why is she being so stubborn this time?” Derick was puzzled.

Chris thought about the time Madeline had come to play pool. “What did she ask you when she came the other day?”

Derick sank another ball in with a casual shot. He gracefully sat on the pool table and lined up another shot, sinking the ball in perfectly again.

“I’ve already told you. She asked if anything happened between you, Jewel, and Ian when you were in school. I told her truthfully that nothing had happened. So, her leaving has nothing to do with me,” Derick clarified, clearing his name!

“I didn’t say anything. Why are you feeling guilty?” Chris‘ tone was harsh.

Derick looked at the last ball on the table. Instead of shooting, he stared at Chris. “Do you really not know why she left? Why she wouldn’t even get the marriage certificate with you?”

“I don’t know. She’s just throwing a tantrum. I’ve spoiled her all these years.” Chris snapped.

Because they couldn’t get the certificate, his parents had been cold to him. People in the company even had heard rumors that he was caught cheating by Madeline. People would say anything they wanted.

“You’ve spoiled her?” Derick laughed.

“To be honest, Chris, I never felt like you’ve spoiled her. It’s more like you’re used to her trailing after you. You think that she can’t live without you. That’s

why you said you weren’t interested in her and why you haven’t looked for her since she left.”

“How am I supposed to find her? Should post a missing person notice all over the world?” Chris was still in that mindset.

Derick shook his head and was too tired to argue further. He shot the last ball, pocketing it. A clean sweep, showcasing his skill as the pool hall’s owner.

Chris snorted, unwilling to admit defeat. “Another round.”

“Chris…” Derick started as Chris lined up his next shot.

“Madeline loves you, but her love has dignity. If you didn’t do something to deeply disappoint her, she wouldn’t have just walked away.”

“What did I do?” Chris was irritated.

“That’s for you to figure out.”

Derick hinted, “Some people part ways forever after a single encounter. When you have time, ask yourself if you truly love Madeline. Or were you just too familiar with her to feel anything,

“Even if you don’t have romantic feelings for her, she’s lived with your family for ten years. You must have some sibling affection for her. You should find her. If something really happens to her, you’ll never be at peace.”

Derick’s words made Chris miss another shot. He threw the cue on the table, angrily walking out.

“By the way, I heard that the Howell family’s lost son from 20 years ago has been found. He’ll be coming back soon.” Derick mentioned as Chris was

leaving.

Chris frowned slightly. Derick continued, “I heard he’s quite exceptional. If your want to collaborate with the Howell family, you should hurry up to avoid any complications.

“And about Madeline… If you still care about her, stop being so proud and take the initiative.” Derick advised Chris who had already walked out the door.

Seeing that Chris didn’t respond, Derick snorted. “You’ll regret this someday.”
