Redmption 17
Redmption 17
Although my shopping experience turned out fairly annoying because of Jewel,
it didn’t affect my appetite. I ate a large plate of pasta before returning to the office. Just as I arrived, I received a call from Bree.
Since I hadn’t been home for two days, it was normal for her to call me.
“Hey, Bree.”
“Maddie, don’t keep staying at your friend’s place. Come home today. I made ravioli filled with fennel and ricotta.”
Bree’s words made me want to laugh. It seemed Chris had already found an excuse for me not being at home.
I’ve already decided to move back to my parents‘ house, so naturally, I had to go back to Gildon Estate to pack things up. I didn’t say anything else. “Bree, I’ll be home tonight.”
As I was leaving work, Kara came over to me. “Maddie, are you okay?”
“What’s wrong?” I was puzzled.
“You know how everyone in the company loves gossiping. Don’t pay them any attention. I’ve seen just how much Mr. Gildon spoils you a lot.”
Kara’s words made me reach out to her.
Knowing what I wanted, she hid her phone behind her back.
I demanded with a serious face, “Hand it over.”
Under my pressure, Kara gave me the phone. I proceeded to open their private gossip group. The content was similar to what the employees were discussing yesterday, but they also dug up some past information about Jewel and Chris.
It turned out they, including lan, were classmates in college. It was even said they were in a love triangle during their university days.
I didn’t know any of this. Although it was gossip, there must be some truth to it.
I returned the phone to Kara and drove off. Instead of going back to Gildon Estate, I went to see Derick at his entertainment club.
Derick was playing pool when I arrived. Upon seeing me, he asked me to join him. “How about two rounds?” he asked.
I had been here before with Chris, and he had taught me how to play pool.
So, I took off my jacket, picked up a cue stick, and played with Derick.
“Not bad. The student has learned from her master.” He was praising Chris.
While playing, I asked him, “Derick, did you go to college with Chris?”
“Yeah, why do you ask? You’re not trying to dig up gossip about his college days, are you?” Derick was sharp. NôvelDrama.Org owns all content.
“Was there something between him and Jewel during college?” I asked directly.
Derick stopped playing and looked at me.
I put on a small smile. “I know you won’t lie to me.”
“No.” Derick took a shot, sinking a ball into a pocket. “I promise.” After he finished, he looked at me. “Why are you suddenly asking about this?”
“I’m just curious,” I replied with just a few words before turning my focus on
the balls in front of me.
“You’re getting married tomorrow. Once you’ve decided to be together, you should trust each other,” Derick reminded me. He then gave me a
congratulatory remark. “Early congratulations on your wedding.”
“We broke up.”
My words made Derick’s hand holding the stick jolt.
After a moment, he nodded. “It’s better to break up now if it’s not right than to marry and divorce later.”
What a straightforward, insensitive man he was.
As I recalled his advice that day, I mentioned, “Thanks, Derick.”
“Hmm?”
I didn’t say more and left directly.
I returned to Gildon Estate. As soon as I entered, I saw Chris‘ car parked in the
yard.
I heard Zack yelling on my way in. “Madeline is your fiancée, Chris. And yet, you were hugging another woman at work! don’t care if you’re shameless. The least you could do was spare Madeline the embarrassment!”
It seemed the office gossip had already reached the Gildon family. I now knew why they had called me back.
“Chris, if you don’t marry Madeline tomorrow, don’t step foot in this house again,” Zack roared again.
