Love or Leave Behind Novel

Chapter 16

“When did you get married? Were you deceived? Who is

? Who is that man? I’ll go find him.” Andrew was furious and sounded like a concerned father.

In the past, Shemaine might have been moved by this show of concern. But now, she felt only irony.

She coldly replied, “That’s my business. It doesn’t concern you.”

There was a pause on the other end of the line before Andrew said, “You’re still my daughter no matter what. If word got out that my daughter was being bullied, where would that leave my reputation?”

Andrew’s main concern was always his own reputation. If relatives and friends learned that she had married and divorced without his knowledge, he would be the subject of ridicule.

“So, who is this man? He didn’t give us any wedding gifts, and he’s never even met us. Did he not take me seriously?” Andrew pressed.

In contrast to Andrew’s agitation, Shelmaine remained calm. “My marriage is my own matter. And now that I’m divorced, It’s over and has nothing to do with you. There’s no point in discussing it further. I just wanted to inform you about it.”

Angry, Andrew hung up the phone on the other hand, Shelmaine wasn’t affected by the call at all.

However, it wasn’t long before her so–called sister, Demi Clarke, sent her a message on WhatsApp.

Shelmaine assumed the phone number had been provided by Andrew and ignored the messages. It wasn’t until she had finished her work that she checked WhatsApp and read the messages from Demi.

“Shelmaine, I’m Demi. Sorry to bother you. Dad should have told you. I hope you’ll take care of me in the future. I want to get along well with you.”

Demi was Andrew’s daughter from his second marriage and was around five or six years younger than Shelmaine. She had a brother in high school too.

However, Shelmaine had never met Demi and wasn’t interested in establishing contact, so she chose not to reply

Even though Demi’s messages went unanswered, Demi continued to message her frequently, liking her posts and even commenting on her old updates. But Shelmaine ignored all

of it

A few days later, Demi called.

Shelmaine didn’t want to answer, but Isabelle saw the call and asked who it was since she hadn’t answered for a while.

“It’s Demi, my father’s daughter,” shelmaine explained.

Isabelle was aware of Shelmaine’s family situation, so she asked, “What does she want?

“I don’t know.”

“Should I answer it for you?”

shelmaine had been feeling unwell due to severe morning sickness and was in poor spirits. So, Isabelle suggested she go out for some fresh air and volunteered to take the call After answering the phone, Isabelle’s expression shifted.Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.

She told Shelmaine, “Demi’s in trouble.”

“What?”

Just what had happened this time?

Shelmaine took the phone back and asked, “What happened?”

However, it wasn’t Demi on the line. Instead, it was a man who introduced himself as Henry. He said, “Are you Demi’s sister? You need to come to the police station. Your sister is being suspected of stealing something, and the investigation is ongoing”

Shelmaine asked for the address and tried to call Andrew to handle the situation. After all, she didn’t want to be involved in their family matters, especially not when she was already struggling with her own problems.

However, she couldn’t reach Andrew on the phone.

Upon seeing this, Isabelle said, “This isn’t going to work. Let me go instead. You should rest at home. You look unwell, and I’m worried about y

“It’s fine” Shelmaine wasn’t a heartless person. “Never mind I’ll go see what’s going on.”

“I’ll come with you

“Alright”

I you…

At the police station, Shelmine learned that Demi had gone to South Haven with her friends during the summer vacation to take on a summer job. Apparently, they had been introduced to this job by an assistant to an internet celebrity.

However, Demi had misplaced the celebrity’s diamond ring. And now, the celebrity, who was none other than Natasha, had reported her to the police.
