Love At Last

MY TRIP TO NEW YORK

“I think I might have an idea Lily,” he said using his thumb and index finger to support his jaw while putting on a ‘thinking’ face. Like a ray of hope appeared in a dark tunnel, I grinned from ear to ear, beaming with expectations. “What is it?” I asked eagerly.

“So now you’re happy,” he smiled and I followed suit. “You feel guilty, right?”

“Very,” I emphasized.

“Why not make it up to him then?”

“Make it up to him? How?”

“Pay him a visit in New York.”

“I should?”

“That way, you tell the other party which is Cayden that you indeed are putting in efforts to sort things out,” he heightened my interest as I seemed to buy the idea.

“So I visit New York, what next?” I was eager to hear the rest of his ‘idea’.

“What else? Pay him a visit over there.”

“But I don’t know where he stays,” I complained.

“Then find out. That makes it easier for Cayden to come to see reasons with your sincerity. When you get there, you find out whether or not he’s interested in you both getting back together.” I nodded continuously as I was totally in the game. “Just clear the air and unburden yourself from unnecessary guilt,” he concluded. “So what do you say? You like the idea?”

“Excellent Jarod. You’re a genius,” I removed my apron and dumped it in his body.

“What are you doing?” he asked, looking all dazed.

“To carry out your idea, of course. Take care of things while I’m gone okay?!” I dashed out immediately.

I rushed to the airport and booked flight tickets for the next available flight to New York without giving it a second thought.

After I booked the flight tickets, I rushed back home to pack my things; my flight was in just one hour. Time was not on my side.

When I got to the house, I realized the house was empty; nana wasn’t in. So I just dashed in to my room at once to start packing. I started by taking my box down from the wardrobe, placing on my bed and opening it to put my clothes inside. Being in a hurry, I didn’t have all the time in the world to neatly arrange my clothes in the box, so I just put them in still hung in the hangers.

Still in the rush of stuffing my things in the box, nana walked in on me.

“Lily?” she called out giving me quite a scare.

“Nana! You weren’t in when I came back so where did you appear from?” I looked startled. “You startled me!” I voiced.

“Are you traveling?”

“Yes nana,” I forced the few things left in the box and tried to zip up.

“Just like that?”

“I’m sorry I didn’t have the time to inform you,” I apologized.

“Where are you off to and why are you in such a hurry? You wanted to leave without my notice?” “No nana. I’m off to New York and I’m in a hurry because my flight is just in…,” I looked at my wristwatch, ” thirty minutes from now,” I finished my statement.

“New York? You finally want to make amends with your dad?” she asked cheerfully like she truly hoped that was the case. But news flash, I was about to dash those hopes like they were nothing.

“Never!” I refuted still stuffing my bag.

“Never?” The traces of smile on her face diminished instantly.

“Never. I’m never making up with those people.”

“Why are you being stubborn, Lily? I thought your dad explained everything to you the last time.”

“Cayden asked him to do it, he suggested and didn’t force daddy, nana,” I turned from the small bag I was putting my deodorants in, to face her. “Whatever daddy did was solely him. And besides, Cayden asked him to throw me out and not abandon me but daddy chose to completely abandon me,” I made my point clear and returned to packing my bags.

“So what exactly are you going to New York to do?”

“To fix daddy’s mistake.” I brought the box down from the bed and placed the small bag on it showing I was ready to leave. “Daddy came over here and ruined me completely, nana. I’m going over to New York to clean the mess your son created.

“I don’t understand.”

“Don’t worry nana. When I get back…,” I extended the hand of the box and rolled it towards the door, “I’ll explain everything to you,” I pecked her goodbye and made my way out.

I got to the airport exactly ten minutes to the time my flight took off and made it right on time.

On getting to New York, I knew I had to board a cab from the airport to aid my movements in this city. I boarded a cab on stepping out of the airport and asked the driver to take me to the hotel I and Cayden stayed in the last time I accompanied him for official reasons. For some reason, that was the place I had in mind to spend the night all through my flight. And owing to the fact that my visit was totally unannounced to Cayden, I could not roam the streets of New York like a newbie with boxes, looking for where Cayden lived; I had to book a room before commencing my search.

On getting to the hotel, I booked a room without hassles and made my way to the room – room 294.

I got to the room and didn’t think to retard by unpacking my things and getting the room ready, instead I made my way to the bathroom and freshened up.

I got dressed and left the room approximately twenty minutes later, with the Grey’s empire as a destination in mind; I thought to visit Cayden’s office to see him and if he wasn’t there, it would be the best place to go if I were to get information as to where he lived.

On getting there, I met the receptionist at the large hall in the entrance of the sophisticated building.

“Hello,” she greeted warmly with smiles allover.

“Hi, good day.” I retaliated.

“So how may we be of help to you, ma’am?”

“I’m here to see someone.”

“Who may that be?” She spoke courteously.

“Mr. Cayden…Cayden Mc. Lou.”

“Okay…hold on a minute,” she turned to her system and clacked the keyboard a couple of times before returning her attention to me. “Sorry, he’s not presently in his office.” I thought as much.

“Umm…could you by any chance give me his house address?” I requested.

“You’ll have to wait a minute, ma’am. I’m not allowed to expose our employees’ personal details. I’m sorry,” she informed nicely.

“I’m kind of in a pinch right now, please help me.” I pleaded. All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.

“But ma…,”

“Please,” I held out both hands and held them together signifying a humble plea. “I’m in a pinch. I need to see him urgently,” I wore a ‘sorry’ look.

She heaved a sigh and turned back to the computer. “I’ll help you out just this once.” Of course miss, I am not returning to this place again.

She then told me his address , and after thanking her heartily, I left the premises and headed straight to Cayden’s.
