Alex’s POV

I walk around the garden, observing all of the newly done work to ensure that every detail was perfect.

It had now been two whole days, and the only thing we needed finished was the interior of the large man but I had installed in the far end of the garden!

Today, we would be installing a proper bar, a television, sofas, a snooker table, a darts board and before we know it the garden will be complete and ready to show off to the guys!

Since the whole scenario with Del the other night, I still awaited another update on the situation.

He had called Clara that

night with me in

in the car with him, and had demanded to be at the next hospital appointment.

At first she was a stuttering mess, before eventually agreeing to let him come claiming that the next appointment would be this coming Friday!

Del had also apologised to both Lottie and Anna for what had happened, however had begged me not to tell the others about his pregnancy drama just yet – and so in the meantime, I’ve held my tongue and I’ve been patient.

As I stroll through the garden, my phone buzzes in my pocket, indicating an incoming call. I retrieve it and see that it’s an unknown number. Curiosity piques my interest, and 1 answer the call immediately.

“Hi, this is Alex speaking,” I greet, my voice laced with caution.

“Hello, Mr. Colt. This is Officer Stevens from the prison, A gruff voice responds on the other end. “I have an update regarding the letters that were se to Miss Charlotte which you had reported the other day?”

My heart quickens with anticipation. Finally, some progress. “That’s great, Officer Stevens. Please, go ahead. What surroundings to ensure that Lottie was still inside and out of cars reach.

The officers tone remains professional yet guarded. “We’ve been monitoring Tommy’s phone calls, and we’ve discovered that he has regular conversations with a woman. We believe this could be a potential lead as to who might be responsible for sending the letters.” He rambles.

A mix of relief and frustration washes over me- “Great so who is it, what’s her name? Where are they located? Don’t tell me that they are in the same town as us or even anywhere close?” I waste no time on asking my growing questions, as the officer sighs slightly down the line.

‘I’m afraid that I cant di

best to investigate the matter – trust us on that.” He concludes his disappointing update.

1 tense my jaw, discontented with the lack of information. “Officer Stevens, I appreciate the update, but this situation is affecting the well–being of my partner. I need more than just vague information. Is there anything else you can tell me? We at least have a right to know who this could be in order to protect ourselves from the individual!” I rant, my tone growing snappy now.

“I apologize, Mr. Colt, but my hands are tied here. We are handling the matter internally, and I assure you, we take it very seriously,” The officer states, his tone unwavering, leaving no room for persuasion.

Taking a deep breath, I gather my resolve. If I can’t rely the prison to provide the necessary information, then I’ll have to take matters into my own

hands

“Thank you for your brief update, is that all? I cut the conversation short, as the officer clears his throat….

He was of no use

to me now… all he has told me is that it’s a damn female!

The officer hesitates for a moment before responding “That’s all I can share at this time, Mr. Colt. We will continue our investigation and update you if we uncover any further information that you should know of. But in the meantime, please remember to exercise caution and refrain from taking matters into your own hands.” He tells me knowingly.

I roll my eyes at his words. “I understand, Officer Stevens, I appreciate your advice, but I won’t just sit idly while my loved ones are being targeted. I will

“It’s just a total shame that you refuse to tell me any important information that could help keep Lottie safe- especially after what she has already! been through!” I add briefly, sharing my distaste for the way it was being handled.

The officer’s voice carries a hint of concern as he replies, “I understand your position, Mr. Colt, but I urge you to be careful. We don’t want any further complications or potential legal issues you might end up in beside Tommy with that attitude!” He warns me as I scoff.

Tommy is an idiot… I am no fo

fool… I wouldn’t

ouldn’t get caught doing anything illegal!

“Yeah sure! I’ll keep that in mind, Officer Perhaps even throwing me in beside Tommy would work out better in the long run that way I could handle matters personally!” I respond, my tone resolute. “But please know that I won’t stop until this person is exposed and held accountable for their actions Lottie will be tormented no further! I state, and with that, I end the call, having had enough of the lack of efforts on their end.

What is the point of telling me they think they know who it is? Only to then say that they can’t actually tell me their name or where they live?!

That’s like saying ‘oh you’ve won a million bucks… but you can’t actually have it!

It’s clear now that if we want answers, we’ll have to seek them out ourselves….

I make my way back to the house, my mind racing with plans and strategies – before I become distracted at the sound of the doorbell ringing.

I head to open it, only to be greeted with the team of decorators.

“There’s a side gate over there. I left it open. It will be easier to take the stuff around that was the plan before moving back to their van.

Great at least they are here now to finish off the hut! I can focus on other shit…

I trek my way around the house, before finding Lottie in my office, organising my book shelf with the new ones I had recently gotten delivered.

I sigh, watching her contentment. “I was actually looking for you to tell you that t as she pauses now.

Her eyebrows furrow in curiosity. “Oh, really? What did he say?” She asks steadily, holding a small red book in her hands,

I take a deep breath, trying to convey a sense of calmness unlike how I truly felt on the inside after the call. “Well, they’ve been monitoring Tommy’s phone calls, and they believe they have identified a potential lead. A woman that he’s been talking to regularly, and they suspect that this person could be involved in sending the letters.” I explain what they told me as she listens Intently.

Lottie’s eyes widen with a mix of hope and apprehension. “That’s… that’s good pushes, as I breathe out,

I shake my head, my frustration apparent. “Unfortunately, Officer Stevens didn’t disclose any further details. He said it’s a private matter and that they’re handling it internally now.” I grit out the words in annoyance seeing her shoulders slump slightly.

“Well that’s no use! It could be anyone! Even someone we know! You would think that they would at least give it

us a name just to be cautious! Lottie rants, confirming my own annoyance on the matter.

Exactly what I thought!

“Don’t worry doll… if they won’t give us the answers we need, then we’ll have to find them ourselves. We can’t just sit a it out – those cops don’t know their elbows from their asses.” I complain, moving around the room in thought.

“Just be careful Alex… we don’t know what we could be getting into this time…” Lottie sighs, as I take on board her thoughts.

I’m not scared… Fill take on the fucking world for her if it means she will be happy and safet

With that in mind, I pull out my phone, send a text out to my men – asking them to meet with me in two days time. Once Lottie’s little house party is over with… we will get to the bottom of who is behind those letters once and for all!
