I Once Married You (Harper and Benjamin)

Chapter 84

Personally Pick Her Up

After ending the call, Harper remained silent for a long time. She finally calmed down until Benjamin retreated to the bedroom. Meanwhile, at the hospital, Frank emerged with medication in hand. Deadpan, he was enveloped in a cold demeanor.

As he got into the car, his assistant inquired, "Mr. Parker, shall I take you home now?"

"Mm."

Frank then closed his eyes and leaned back in his seat, no longer uttering a word.

The journey back to his apartment was filled with silence. Frank tossed the medication aside upon arrival, showing no interest in taking it, and headed straight to the shower.

Harper's words about clarifying their relationship echoed in his ears. It was impossible for him to feel nothing.

Frank had long been aware of Harper's rationality and clear understanding of what she desired and didn't desire, which had stirred his heart.

Even if she made her intentions clear, his feelings were unlikely to change.

Otherwise, he wouldn't have waited for her for so many years.

Frank chuckled self-deprecatingly, murmuring, "Harper, you truly are ruthless to me."

After finishing his shower, Frank stepped out of the bathroom to find a woman sitting on the couch, engrossed in her phone.

His expression darkened slightly as he asked, "Why did you suddenly come over? Didn't I tell you not to contact me during this time? Do you realize he's starting to suspect something?"

The beautiful woman replied softly, "I know. Before coming over, I took several detours to ensure no one would notice. You can rest assured."

Frank's expression softened slightly, but he cautioned. "Even if no one notices, you must remain vigilant. There can be no room for error. If we're discovered, all our preparations will be in vain, understand?" "Yes, I understand. I'll be more careful next time. How did you get that injury on your face?"

The woman rose from the couch and approached Frank, her eyes filled with concern.

"It's nothing."

"Do you not even trust me?"

"It was a minor dispute with Benjamin."

The woman asked excitedly, "Why?"

Before Frank could respond, she continued, "Is it because of Harper?"

"It has nothing to do with her."

"How can it have nothing to do with her? What else could make you quarrel with Benjamin? I don't understand. What is it about Harper that attracts you? Why let her interfere with our plans? Can't she just..." "That's enough," Frank interjected sternly, "I've said it before. Our actions have nothing to do with Harper. My dealings with her are unrelated to what we're working towards. If you can't even listen to me, then what's the point of continuing?"

His expression was cold, his eyes reflecting an unwavering resolve. The woman could only say, "I understand. I'll do as you say."

"Alright, it's getting late. You should head back now. Don't come looking for me unless it's important, understood?"

"Mm, I'll leave now."

"Drive safely."

Frank escorted the woman to the door, watching her enter the elevator before closing the door.

He seemed still not quite at ease, so he sent a text message to the woman, reminding her: [Remember my words, don't come looking for me again. If there's anything, I'll contact you, okay?] She replied: [Okay.] Only then did Frank finally set down his phone.

Perhaps because of Frank's actions, from that day on, Benjamin made it a point to personally come and pick up Harper every day unless he had prior engagements. In case he couldn't make it, Curtis or the driver would be sent to fetch her.

Initially resistant, Harper remarked, "You don't need to have someone watch over me every day, do you?"

"I'm doing it for your safety. I don't want anything to disrupt the harmony of our marriage again."

His seemingly righteous words left Harper speechless. She could only accept his decision.

Frank was well aware of why Benjamin did so. Noting Harper's lack of resistance, he had to ask, "Is Mr. Martin doing this to prevent something between us that he might misunderstand?"

"No, he might just have too much time on his hands," Harper explained.

Having felt her coldness these days, Frank couldn't help but ask, "Harper, is it that he doesn't allow us to communicate? If that's the case, you can tell me directly, I'll keep my distance to avoid putting you in a difficult position."

"No, you've misunderstood."

"If not, why have you been distant with me these days? Harper, I understand you, I know what you're thinking. Did Benjamin say something to you?"

Frank stared directly at her.

Harper pressed her lips and said, "Frank, you're really mistaken. I'm not a three-year-old child. I have my own judgment. And indeed, we should maintain a safe distance between us. After all, being too close as friends isn't good. It can lead to misunderstandings, which wouldn't be fair to your future girlfriends, do you understand?"

Frank chuckled, "So are you planning to set me up with a girlfriend then?"

Harper's expression turned slightly serious as she replied, "I was just saying 'if'. Are you saying you'll never fall in love in your lifetime? That's impossible."

"What's impossible?" Frank squinted. "Harper, did I pressure you and make you unhappy?"

Shaking her head, Harper replied, "No, don't overthink it, Frank. We're friends, and between friends, there's no pressure or misunderstanding, right?" With that one statement summarizing their relationship as friends, Frank fell silent.

Just then, Harper's phone rang, breaking the awkward moment.

Glancing at the screen, she answered, "Hello?"

"I'm here."

"Hmm?"

Harper furrowed her brow slightly.

Benjamin spoke in a low voice. "I'm outside your office building. Isn't it already past closing time? Do you want me to come up and pick you?" Harper unconsciously glanced at Frank and replied, "No need, I'll come down myself."

"Alright, I'll wait for you."

After ending the call, Harper put away her phone and then looked at Frank. "Frank, I'm going to head off from work now." "Okay, stay safe."

"Mm."

Harper packed her bag and left the office.

As she exited the building, she spotted the black car parked by the roadside. Walking over, Harper opened the passenger door and got in.Content property of NôvelDra/ma.Org.

From the eighteenth-floor window of the building, Frank watched this scene unfold. Though he could only see a tiny figure, he thought, "She must be wearing a happy expression, right?"

Inside the car, after fastening her seatbelt, Harper looked at Benjamin and asked, "Why are you here so early? Did you skip work?"
