Yanis nodded, "Still drinking?"
Madison hesitated for a moment, then took a few sips of water, "Thank you."
Yanis placed the water glass on the bedside table and then got up to sit by the bed.
Mila, with her keen sense, exited the room at the right moment and closed the door behind the two.
Now that Mila had left, Yanis and Madison were left facing each other in silence.
Eventually, Yanis broke the silence, "Has Ivan called you?"
Madison shook her head with a bitter smile, "He's probably still mad, angry at my heartless decision
back then."
In reality, Yanis wanted to say that Ivan's anger wasn't really about Madison leaving her in the care of
Martin and Olivia, nor was it about Madison marrying into a wealthy family and leaving her as a burden.
Ultimately, Ivan was upset because of Madison's insatiable need for control and possession.
She wanted to have a say in everything, to have everyone around her on her side, to have everything
go according to her wishes. This included Ivan's emotions, something she desired to manipulate.
If anyone opposed her will, they became her adversary.
So, when Madison said these things, Yanis didn't intend to argue. She simply listened quietly.
Yanis's gaze occasionally fell on Madison's face, and she seemed slightly puzzled. She had never
observed Madison so closely before, so many subtle expressions and details had escaped her
attention. If she had paid more attention to Madison's expressions during their interactions, she might
have noticed the signs much earlier.
In Madison's face and demeanor, Yanis seemed to see a faint reflection of herself. After all, their
shared bloodline meant there were inevitably some similarities.
Yanis was lost in thought, only snapping back when Madison called her name. She looked at Madison,
asking, "What?"
With Yanis's gaze on her, Madison smiled and shook her head, "I'm glad you're here."
Compared to before, Madison seemed to have lost more weight. Her eye sockets were somewhat
sunken, and her skin looked as if it had been stripped off, leaving only a sagging layer.
Seeing Madison like this, Yanis unconsciously frowned. She opened her mouth to say something, but
when the words came, she hesitated, eventually falling silent.
The room fell quiet suddenly. After a few seconds, Madison seemed to remember something and softly
called Yanis.
Yanis looked at her, "Do you want more water?"
Madison shook her head and pointed to a cabinet, saying softly, "In the innermost drawer of that
cabinet, there's a deep red box. Could you get it for me?"
Yanis got up and walked to the cabinet, opening the drawer as Madison had described. She spotted
the deep red box Madison mentioned.
Yanis picked it up, closed the cabinet door, and walked back to the bed, handing the box to Madison.
"Is this it?"
Madison didn't reach out for the box, but instead said softly, "Open it and see."
Yanis hesitated but complied, opening the box. Inside were a pair of small silver bracelets and a long-
life lock.
Yanis looked at them and then puzzledly at Madison.
Madison's lips curved into a subtle smile. She explained softly, "These were secretly bought by your
grandmother all those years ago. Originally, I wanted to give them to you, but at the time, I don't know
what I was thinking. I took them from you, treating them as keepsakes. Your name is engraved on
them."
Hearing Madison's words, Yanis picked up the bracelets and saw her name engraved on them-a long
string of letters: Yanis.
Yanis's fingers brushed over them, and she didn't say much, simply placing everything back into the
box.
Madison whispered, "Keep it. Give it to your children in the future."
At Madison's words, Yanis unconsciously furrowed her brows.
Madison continued, "As a grandmother's gift, it might not be valuable, but..."
She didn't finish the sentence but looked at Yanis, her gaze carrying a hint of plea.
Yanis pressed her lips together and closed the box. "Alright."
Madison smiled, "Thank you for coming to see me. I'm satisfied."
Yanis looked at Madison, intending to say something, but hesitated. Finally, she changed the topic,
asking, "Does Ivan know about your situation?"
"He probably does, but it's fine. I know he's busy with his own matters, and that's okay."
Though Madison said so, Yanis could detect that she still wished for Ivan's return.
Yanis didn't mince words in this matter. She said straightforwardly, "If you want to see him, tell him. No
matter how important things are, he'll come back."
Even if Ivan was somewhat displeased with Madison, in this situation, any resentment or annoyance
would pale in comparison.
And Ivan wasn't the cold-hearted type to begin with.
When Madison heard Yanis's words, she met Yanis's gaze, her expression a mix of emotions.
Yanis looked at her, "I'll let Ivan know."
Madison hesitated for a few seconds before offering no objection.
Seemingly, they had nothing else to say to each other.
The atmosphere grew somewhat heavy, but fortunately, a knock on the door broke it.
Ryan entered the room and said, "I bought groceries. Let's have dinner here tonight."
Ryan directed his words to Yanis.
Yanis hesitated for a moment before nodding to Ryan. Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.
Madison looked at Yanis and said, "Take Yanis downstairs. I'm feeling a bit tired."
Ryan glanced at Madison's face and then turned to Yanis, softly saying, "Yanis, let's go downstairs. Mr.
Lawrence is waiting."
Yanis acknowledged and stood up. She turned to Madison and said softly, "Rest well."
Madison nodded.
Once Yanis had left, Ryan looked at Madison and asked, "Did Yanis say anything?"
