Chapter 517
Chapter 517
Evadne and Thaddeus were preparing to move back into their cozy nest that very evening.
As they were about to leave, Marilla clung to her sister–in–law and sobbed uncontrollably, crumpling Evadne’s little black dress and soaking the entire front with her tears.
For those who didn’t know, it would seem like they might never see each other again.
Evadne comforted her at length, promising to visit often and sternly instructed Jareth not to get too caught up with his Fairhaven group business. He should take Marilla out more often instead of letting her feel like a caged canary, losing the joy of freedom.
Jareth, with vows as loud as thunder, clung to his tear–soaked wife, standing on the doorstep to watch them leave.
Once the car had driven a distance, Evadne could no longer hold back her tears, which fell like twinkling stars descending into the dark night.
“Evadne, please don’t cry,” Thaddeus said, his voice laced with concern as his strong arm encircled her trembling shoulders, pulling her close for comfort, his chin resting atop her soft hair.
“It’s not like we’ll never see her again. If you miss Marilla, we can have her stay with us for a while. Or can buy a bigger villa. And if you like, we can all live together. Lily’s going to be so busy being an executive secretary, and Marilla can be taken care of by Alva. It couldn’t be more suitable.” Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!
“Hmph, are you really Jareth’s bro? Coming up with such an awful idea,” Evadne sniffled, poking his chest with an accusing finger. “You want to split them up just to cheer me up? How heartless. Even if Marilla doesn’t say it, I bet Jareth would be cursing you in secret every day.”
Thaddeus was momentarily stunned, then his l*ps pressed onto hers once more.
After a tender moment, he chuckled ruefully, “I didn’t think that much. I saw that you were reluctant to part with Marilla so I thought I was doing a good thing.”
“You told me not to disturb the lovebirds,” Evadne said, her breath ragged from his k*ss, her eyes shining with tears, “So don’t disturb them.”
Thaddeus gazed deeply into her eyes, which ensnared his very soul, and a barely perceptible mischievous smile played on his l*ps. “Evadne, are you telling me not to disturb them, or do you want our reclaimed world for two to remain undisturbed, hmm?”
Blushing, Evadne bit her l*p shyly. “I won’t tell you.”
Despite the urgency of the situation, Thaddeus couldn’t help but suppress a laugh at her words. A phone call, however, broke the moment.
It was Evadne’s phone ringing.
“Let me get that,” she murmured, extracting herself from his warm embrace.
Seeing it was from Nydia, who rarely called unless it was something serious, she felt a sudden tightness.
“Nydia, what’s wrong?” Evadne answered immediately.
“Sis, please save Jason.”
Nydia’s voice broke, and tears gushed forth. “He’s been detained by the police!”
Evadne’s heart skipped a beat. “Jason’s been detained? For what?!”
ren detainmeuer
Thaddeus’s eyes narrowed, his hand gripping hers tightly.
“It’s been a few days already.”
Nydia’s voice was on the verge of collapse, “Mom and I tried many ways. The Dempsey family even tried to help, but we can’t get Jason out.”
“What?! Why are you telling me just now!” Evadne’s voice cracked with urgency.
“Evadne, calm down; don’t scare Nydia, Thaddeus interjected gently, squeezing her hand. “Tell Nydia not to worry and to take her time explaining.”
Feeling guilty, Evadne apologized, “I’m sorry, Nydia. I spoke too harshly just now. Please stop crying and tell me the details. I’d like to know who’s got the guts, whose brain is filled with leek stuffing, daring to mess with my Evadne! Watch me make them pay!”
Although the situation was urgent, Thaddeus, after hearing the words of the fiery woman, managed to suppress a laugh.
“It was the Chambers family”
Nydia sobbed, piecing her words together. “I think after Byron bullied me and Jason fought him. The Chambers family couldn’t let it go and they came after Jason. He’s been arrested for intentional harm, and to make matters worse, Byron got a disability assessment. He blamed all his injuries on Jason. He’s now sentenced for causing severe injuries.”
And, of course, his impotence was included.
With the capabilities of the Chambers Group, tampering with a medical report was nothing for them.
“That son of bitch deserves nothing less than execution! I spared his life out of mercy, and now the Chambers Group dares to retaliate?!” Evadne fumed, her eyes burning with rage.
“They refuse a private settlement.”
“A settlement? Impossible. They want Jason to die!”
Rubbing her throbbing temples, Evadne seethed with anger. “The one capable of such things is undoubtedly Matthew, and who knows, maybe Cedric
top!”
“Cedric? But Cedric’s Jason’s older brother. How could he?” Nydia was shocked, struggling to comprehend.
“It’s very likely.”
Thaddeus gently patted her back, his eyes as cold and deep as a mountain lake, “Cedric is the top– notch lawyer in Elmsworth, and his own brother has been in trouble for so long without him taking any action. Isn’t that strange?
Combine that with what you told me, Evadne, Cedric and Jason have a strained relationship. It’s The reason? You know it well.”

using Byron’s incident to trip Jason up.
“Jason is his biological brother. How could he do such a thing!” Nydia exclaimed in outrage.
“To Cedric, it’s all about the chase for fame and fortune. What does he care for family ties or humanity!”
Evadne’s fist hammered against the car window, startling both Gordon, who was driving, and Thaddeus. They worried about her hand, “It was me who dealt with Byron; but they only dared to trouble Jason. Isn’t this cherry–picking the soft target?!”
“Evadne, I’m here.” Thaddeus soothed, capturing her swollen fist in his hands and gently massaging it.
“And, considering Jason’s temperament, he’s afraid of burdening me. He’ll bear all the burdens silently on his own.”
Evadne’s throat tightened, a tornado of guilt tearing through her, “I’ve been so careless. I was only thinking about revenge, not realizing that those around me are in danger because of me. How can I be so useless!”
In the past, she used to plan meticulously, taking steps cautiously.
But ever since she fell in love, she had been immersed herself in the sweetness of romance; her senses to external became numb.
“Sis, don’t blame yourself. What’s happening to Jason isn’t your fault,” Nydia quickly tried to comfort her.
Thaddeus took Evadne’s trembling hand, holding the phone to his ear, “Nydia, don’t panic. Leave Jason’s matters to me. Before the sun sets tomorrow, I promise he’ll be back with you, safe and sound.”
