He gazed deeply into her eyes.
Then, he said the least thing she expected.
“Do you like me, Author?”
Beatrice squinted her eyes and laughed.
“Why do you like uttering gibberish out of the blue?”she moved away from him and went to sit down on the chair.
He tuts before returning the top and bringing out another one, then puts it on.
“When.. can I go visit my mother tho?. I mean, it was supposed to be yesterday and..”
“Come to think of it, I haven’t heard the church’s bell today.”he cuts in.
“Maybe they’ve repented?”she shrugs.
“Ah, you’re more of a sinner than I could ever think. That’s a crazy line.”he chortled.
“Yeah, right?. But today is Sunday, so it’s kind of a surprise to me also. But, back to me, I can go visit my mother now, right?”
He sat on the edge of the bed and pressed his lips together.
“No.”
The church bell began to ring and they both stared at each other.
“Repent.”she said to him.
“What the fuck you mean?”he frowned.
“Think about it, think, think.”she tapped her brain.
“Immediately you said no, the bell began to toll.. I think its want you to repent from your sinful ways.”
Gregory scoffs.
“We can only do it one way then.”he sighed.
“What way?”
“It’s the only way.”he breathed out.
She leaned out of her chair and squinted her eyes.
“You mean the Jesus’ way?”Her mouth twitched.
“No. The US way. Just us.”
She relaxed back into her seat and throw him a quizzical look.
“What do you mean?”
“We will have to visit your mother together.”
“Hell! Not happening. This is a..”she stopped half – way in her statement and puts a hand over her mouth.
Who knows, Jennifer might be out there, eavesdropping again.
That girl is sure a sly queen.
She shook her head at him.
He stood up and went to whisper in her ear.
“It’s the only way.”
..
Beatrice stepped out of her room, dressed in a black outfits.
The door to Gregory’s room opened from afar and he also got out.
“Oh, not the same color!”she whined when she saw that he was also in an all black dress.
“What to do?. I can’t change it though.”
She huffs and ruffled her hair.
“If it’s okay by you, I suggest we go now as it looks like I would be busy from the afternoon to the evening.”he headed towards the stairs.
“Where you going to?”Jennifer got out of her room and inquired.
“To see my mother in-law.”he replied and took the stairs down.
Jennifer brows creased up in a tight look.
She looked back at Beatrice who only shrugs before hurrying towards the stairs.
**
Zack drove inside the mansion and went to park his car inside the garage.
“Welcome, sir.”the guards greeted.
He hummed and walked inside the house.
“Just coming home?”he met his father sitting on the long couch, with his right leg placed on the other.
He was looking at something on his phone.
“Yeah.”he gave a little nod.
His father, Derrick, chuckled softly and puts down his phone.
“So, you went to a party last night, and you’re just coming home?. What do you want me to make out of that?”he resets his glasses.
“I’m a grown – up man, dad. It’s time I start making decisions myself.”he protested with an eyes roll.
“Oh, grown up kid, can you move out of my house now that you’re old enough?”he questioned.
“Why?”Zack questioned instead.
“Well, I am only staying here because of mom. If not, why would I ever want to stay by an old boring man?”he blinked rapidly.
Derrick sniggered at him.
“I see you’re about to boohoo again.”he mocked.
“What a grown up man.”he taunted.
“You’re still very a kid that can’t afford to leave his father’s house. But, as long as you want to stay here with me, you will listen and live by my rules.”
“I have my life to live, dad, even if it’s for once. I don’t wanna be ever strict and boring like you. I deserve to be happy, feel loved and love.”
Derrick exhaled heavily and removed his glasses.
“To live in this world, to survive this world, you have to be different, son. I..”
“Oh, please! I don’t ever want to be like you! You were just too busy back then that you didn’t know mom was sick. You killed her, dad. If you had notice her sickness, just a little bit earlier, I’m sure mom wouldn’t have ended up dead. All she ever wanted was your love but because of money, you–”Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.
Before he could complete his statement, Derrick mauled his phone at him in rage.
Zack held on to his left eye which the phone had hit before landing on the ground, with his right hand.
“You will never change. You would forever be a scary husband and father. I hate you.”he lamented bitterly and rushed up to his room.
Derrick eyes twinkled, almost at the edge of breaking down.
He is doing all this for him.
He stood up and went after Zack.
He had made the mistake once, and he won’t repeat that again.
He cannot afford to lose just another person of his own.
Zack’s door was opened so he just went in.
His body was hurled up on his bed and his face was buried in his pillow.
Derrick sauntered to where he was and gently sat down beside him.
“It was my fault, I’m sorry.”he spoke calmly.
Zack didn’t bulge but only whimper.
“I.. I just didn’t want..”he looked up at the ceiling and took a sharp breath in.
He just wanted the best for him.
“Despite all my hard work and all, I was still ranked as the number 10. I.. just had to be set – aside so they won’t trash me around. Trust me, son. You see those rich people?, they’re more scary. If I hadn’t worked hard and make myself outstanding, do you think I would be the man I am today?.”he let’s out his heart.
That doesn’t seem satisfying enough for Zack.
“I… alright, I’m sorry, son. You.. can do whatever you want. And, if thinking I was the reason your mom died puts you at ease, then do that. It’s all my fault.”
Zack looked up at him and sobbed before embracing him.
Well, he is a crybaby. He is very soft at heart.
