Prettier than her
“The wound on Mr. Fuego’s side is deep. Fortunately, it’s not on his vital organ so his condition is not critical. But he lost a lot of blood so he has to stay in the hospital and we’ll wait for his condition to stabilize,” stated the doctor.
Jenica nodded and looked around the closed surgical room. She pursed her lips and continued to walk back and forth. She contacted Alex’s assistant, who assured her that he was on his way.
Jenica grimaced as she looked over at the two bodyguards standing silently to the side. These two men emerged out of nowhere as she was taking her husband out of the club.
The two corpses she saw earlier in the VIP area were the two men that escorted Dante Antonete away. Both were reported dead upon arrival.
“Assassins,” she murmured, sinking back into her thoughts.
“Miss Laurel!” called Renato, Alex’s personal assistant. “Sorry I’m late. There’s a heavy traffic on the highway. How is Mr. Fuego?”
“The operation was successful, and he’ll be transferred to a private room for observation,” she said, looking at the two silent men standing a few meters away. “You know them?” she asked, pointing to them.
Renato frowned as he glanced at what she was pointing at. “Antonete Private Security.”
“Antonete?” she asked, raising an eyebrow. Gia’s men? Was it just a coincidence that Gia’s men were still around while that woman was nowhere?
She approached the two with a gloomy expression. “Hey. Did Gia Antonete asked you to watch over Alex?” she went on to say.
The two bodyguards bowed to her to show respect, but she knew better. “Yes ma’am.”
Jenica smirked and squinted. She sensed something was wrong, but she couldn’t pinpoint what it was. She sighed and closed her eyes. “Does she have any other instructions for you both?”
“No, Ma’am. Young Miss just wants to keep an eye on Mr. Fuego.”
Jenica sneered. Watch over Alex? Maybe she wants to know if a woman’s buzzing around Alex.
She said her goodbyes to Renato after staff members moved Alex to the private room. “I guess he’ll be okay. Call his relatives and inform them.”
The assistant paused. He eventually handed over an envelope. “Mrs. Fuego, I know it’s not appropriate for me to give you this. But you might need it.”
As Alex’s personal assistant, he is aware that Jenica is Mr. Fuego’s concealed wife, therefore his call came as no surprise to her. She accepted the letter and saw it contained an invitation to the Fuego and Antonete clans’ engagement reception.
She grinned at him with a disdainful look in her eyes. “Thanks,” she murmured as she exited the hospital.
She took a taxi back to her hotel and called her assistant in another country. “Give me the complete details of the guests and the organizers of this engagement party.”
Then she called the home nanny and inquired about Sham’s condition. Jenica exhaled a sigh of relief as the lady responded affirmatively. She had no idea why she was suddenly restless, like if something horrible was about to happen. But she pushed those thoughts to the back of her mind when she received critical information from her assistant.
Gia Antonete is the second child of the couple Antonete and childhood friend of Alexander Fuego. She flew to the States and studied there, joined Hollywood and become a sensational artist. Three years ago she returned to the country because her grandmother asked her to go back home.
Her singing career has also flourished in the country. A few months ago, a meet and greet event took place in the capital and there, Alex and Gia met again. And, just this morning, Gia announced her engagement to the CEO of Fuego Empire. Alex did not deny anything, therefore Gia’s statement became headline news.
Well, there was still no results in the investigation about Antonete Enterprise, but the important information about Gia is enough for now.
Jenica blinked. Her return to the country was timed perfectly. She chuckled.
‘Isn’t it Gia Antonete? You attempted to kill me, so let’s see if you can crawl onto my husband’s bed,’ she thought as she smiled at the gleaming city.
After a few days, it was time for the engagement party. The national news was covering what was going on inside. Some well-known showbiz and business figures arrived to put a face to the capital’s two most powerful clans. Jenica even noticed some international celebrities walking around the hall.
She was dressed up and wore beautiful jewelry, and Jenica knew she looked different from her previous image. She didn’t like to dress well back then and would always wear plain house clothing. Even when Alex escorted her to boutiques, she refused to buy a dress.
Her lips curved into a rare sweet smile.
A man approached her unexpectedly and asked, “Miss, are you alone?”
Jenica squinted her eyes as she peered at the newcomer. Isn’t this Alex’s haughty cousin? She remembered how this man tried to win her over with his so-called charm when he came to Alex’s place.
And only this man knew Alex had a hidden wife among all the Fuego.
Her gaze shifted to the side. He didn’t appear to recognize her. Jenica smiled and reached out her hand. “I’m Laurel,” she introduced herself.
The man’s eyes widened somewhat at what she did, and he returned her smile. “Robert Fuego, Miss.” He winked at her shamelessly.
When she felt Robert squeeze her palm, the edge of her lips rose. She silently retracted her hand. “So… you’re one of the relatives?” she inquired, sipping her wine.
“Kinda,” he said with a smile, scratching the back of his neck. “I’m Alexander’s cousin. Do you want to meet him?”
“Why do you ask?”
Robert gave a nasty smirk. “I don’t have a date tonight. If you don’t mind, I’ll introduce you as my date to that cousin of mine.”
‘The same playboy Robert, I see,’ Jenica thought. She smirked and said, “Sure why not?”
Robert took her to the second floor. Jenica secretly took a look around and noticed that the two clans actually paid hugely for the engagement party. Too bad, it’ll be a waste later.
When she felt Robert’s fingers on her waist, her vision dimmed. She took a step to the side and smiled at him. “There are eyes staring at us. I don’t want a scandal.”
Robert laughed and threw up his hands in the air. “Okay, got it.”
They soon entered the men’s dressing room together. Jenica furrowed her brows and looked at Robert, who seemed oblivious to the hotel staff’s suspicious stares. It’s unusual to see a woman enter the men’s room, but the man next to her looked unconcerned.
Jenica snorted.
“Bro! I brought a girl tonight. She’s prettier than your fiancee!” Robert exclaimed as he pushed her to the towering man standing with his back on her.
Jenica gasped in surprise. This thug who couldn’t handle a woman!© NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
