Bet with the Mafia
Jenica would admit she got nervous when Bree called her full name but she didn’t show it in her face. Instead, a small smile was on the corner of her lips but her fist hidden under the table was clenched.
“What Jenica Laurel? You must be mistaken,” she denied.
The smile on Bree’s lips only grew wider. “Don’t deny it. I’ve gone high and low to pull off your mask and I won.” Bree licked her lips and smiled wickedly at her. “I know your real name is Jenica Laurel, an orphan and a loser who worked in the corporate and disgraced herself having stolen money from your boss.”
A glint flashed across Jenica’s eyes. How did Bree Mondragon know about her true name? Did someone tip her off?
Jenica suddenly thought of the man in front of the Police Station who did stare at her as if he knew her. Was her gut feeling true? That the man knew her from the start and told Bree about it?
But she didn’t know the man!
“So, what else did you find about me?” she asked, finally confirming Bree’s words.
Bree’s eyes widened and she covered her mouth with her hand. The woman chuckled. “So it’s true! You are Jenica Laurel, the loser who begged money in the local newspaper years ago!”
Jenica’s gaze deepened. This woman has the guts to remind her of her dark past. But she’s more concerned about the man outside the Police Station that day. Jenica knew the man was the reason why Bree found out her real name. She’s uncomfortable knowing that someone knows her yet not the other way around.
Jenica smiled. “I’m not here to introduce myself, Miss Bree. But you must know that I’m seriously throwing your family into prison if you won’t tell me where the child is.”
Bree smirked. “Well,” the woman leaned towards her, “I don’t know where he is.”
Jenica was about to stand up so Bree frowned. “I said I don’t know, okay? It’s my parents who accepted that task from that mysterious man in the capital.”
Man in the capital? Jenica frowned even more. “Someone asked you to kidnap my child?”
“No. It’s not me who abducted that child but someone contacted me to hide the child in the South. It’s not my idea to kidnap someone’s child and why should I target your son?” Bree sneered. “Well, it’s not definitely my fault that your child got kidnapped. In the first place, it’s your job to take care of your son. It’s not me who didn’t do their job well.”
Even though she was annoyed by the words coming out of the woman’s mouth, Bree was right. She’s to blame for why Sham was kidnapped. If only she’s not too conceited to bring her son back knowing that she has a mission in the country, this wouldn’t have happened.
But who wanted to kidnap Sham? According to her assistant, Jared and Mondragon have no direct connection. So Jared probably wasn’t the one who came up with the plan to abduct her son.
She hasn’t offended a lot of people when she came back to the country months ago. It’s only the main Antonete branch whom she teased a little.
She glanced at Bree who was also looking at her. Jenica could see the gloating in the woman’s eyes but she didn’t care. “Give me the name of that person who contacted you.”
“Why should i?” Bree folded her arms. “There’s no free meal nowadays.”
Jenica pursed her lips. “What do you want?”C0ntent © 2024 (N/ô)velDrama.Org.
“You know it, Miss Jenica. Don’t ask anymore,” she said with a smile.
She drew a breathe. “I won’t do anything to your family.”
The smile on Bree’s lips grew wider. “Okay! Well…” The woman thought for a moment. “I don’t know who exactly is that person, but he knows that I am working in Desmana Group because of the agreement my clan has with the Antonete branch. He just gave me the address and instruction where to ship off the child.”
Jenica clenched her fist. Were they treating her son like goods? Unforgivable!
“Did someone give your number to that person?”
“Hmmm…. I don’t think so. That person is not related to the Antonete branch but he knew what was my connection with those hypocrites, so out of fear, I did what he told me.”
Jenica thought. In that case, she couldn’t get a name out of Bree’s mouth either. But she had decided what to do next.
She stood and left the visiting area. Bree, who was left inside, shouted, “Don’t forget your promise! Don’t touch them!”
Jenica just smiled and drove the car out of the prison compound. She headed to the bar owned by the Mafia Don. The man was surprised to see her.
“What are you doing here, Doctor Acinea?” he asked gruffly and folded his arms.
A small smile appeared on her lips as she sat in the chair across from him. She poured a drink into an empty glass and took a sip of wine. “I want your help again,” she said.
The man raised a brow and leaned forward. “I don’t do charity works. If you want my help, give me an equivalent amount!”
Jenica took out the token given by his wife. “Is this enough?”
The man frowned and took the token from her hands. “Is this how you casually bet my token to a stranger?”
“Are you a stranger?” she asked with raised eyebrows. His face went darker and Jenica smiled widely. “Don, if you won’t help me then I’ll turn to your wife. I bet she’s a good woman whom I can trust.”
“Don’t you dare involve my wife in your mess!” The man sneered. “I heard those Desmana brats want you to surrender yourself to save their faces. Speak. Do you want to annihilate the whole clan or maybe ruin the Desmana Group?”
Oh how casually he said those words as if he’s stepping on ants. Jenica just smiled wider. She must be right to ask for this man’s help!
She wanted to travel to the South but she couldn’t. HQ won’t let her go back to the South without a lead on her mission. And she knew that Sham might not be in the South anymore.
“Well, I don’t intend to make a move on Desmana right now.” Jenica pointed a finger on the token.
