Chapter 23
Drumroll
His fingers tightened, digging into the soft flesh of my thighs.
“Fuck Myra.” He cursed after leaning his head back away from me. At an impressive speed he planted his palm on my back for support and flipped us, so I was now in the chair’while he hovered over me.
I dug my nails into his neck. To leave a mark on him like he did in my life. Then my mood turned even more sour when I realized people would think it was Taml.
Maybe she left marks of her own too. Did he control their own lovemaking like he did ours? Or was she given more liberty with him.
Mr Pierce Blackwood who made sure to leave the apartment as pristine as he came in.
I grabbed both sides of his shirt and yanked it apart. The sound of ripping seams filled the air.
“For fucks sake,” he snapped and pushed himself off me as buttons scattered on the floor.
“This is what you wanted isn’t it? and I love the necklace and the flowers and everything you’ve ever gotten me. In fact, I want more. I’m working towards building a collection so why don’t we get busy,
“Муга,”
“Sex with you is demeaning.”
“And you suddenly grew morals, when?”
I pressed my hands into my eyes, hard.
“Getout Pierce,” there wasn’t anything I could do if he decided to stay. But I wanted him to know I didn’t want him there. “If you’re not going to fuck me, then you might as well leave, no need to hover around me.” I finished crudely.
“What has gotten into you?” He asked, his eyes looked at me with wariness like you would a wild animal with a knife at its throat. I guess in some ways I was that animal.
What has gotten into me? The mixed signals, my fucking delusional mind. I willed him to see the love and heartbreak shining in my eyes. But Pierce didn’t do love, so he shook his head like he had done his best to figure out what my deal was and was coming up empty.
My shoulders slumped as he stepped away from me and tried to do up the buttons of his shirt. I smiled in solace knowing he would not leave the room as pristine as he had come in.
Alone finally I lowered myself gently on the bed. I didn’t bother with the covers either. It was my way of punishing myself for being an idiot.
Just add those to the trash, we don’t need them anymore.” I told Lily before sneezing again. My nose. was red and itchy and there was no sign that we would be finished anytime soon.
“You don’t, but I do. I’m keeping it.” she argued before adding it to the box of her things that I would keep In my apartment.
We had moved mum already, and it was left for us to clear the house of the rest of our belongings. Lily

was finding it hard to part with a couple of things.
“What on earth do you need a broken mx player for? the circuit board was sticking out for Christ sake. She had been acting snappy around me all day, and I understood this situation was affecting her but it wasn’t easy on me either, Coupled with last night’s events I was running on energy reserve to appear sane today. The head doctor in mum’s new home, looked like he wanted to offer me a room after I signed the visiting schedule he handed me.
Lily ignored my question and went back into mum’s empty room. I walked back to the box and took out the Mx player. Either I tossed it out here or I would do go in the apartment.
When I walked into the room, Lily was sitting while hugging her legs to her body. I sighed and plopped down beside her. There was an old picture beside her. Curious, I picked it up.
Dad stared back at me through the piece of paper. In the photo I was about seven, Little Lily was asleep in mum’s arms.
“This was so long ago.” I muttered. But even in the photo, mum looked sad. Like she had moved to a different reality in her head.
“Do you think we did the right thing?” she asked beside me, her head no longer resting on her knees, “1 mean framing him.”
I looked at the picture again. Dad’s dragon tattoo was peeking out of his long sleeved shirt. Even then I stood closer to mum than I did to him. I nodded.
“Not that you had anything to do with it, but yes. If I was given that option I would do it again.”
After he was done using mum’s head as a hammer and threatened us about going to the hospital, I did the only thing I thought would save us. Lily only got dragged in because she was such a nosy brat. Dad occasionally sold drugs to fund his drinking habits. After he had made mum quit nursing, money became tight. All I had to do was buy a sizable amount of drugs, out of the savings I was keeping from working at the eatery. His supplier looked at me suspiciously but all he cared about was making money.
When I got home, I planted the drugs in the house before I headed out to make the anonymous phone call.
Dad’s supplier worked with a gang that had managed to evade the police so far so they jumped on the tidbit of information. Begore the end of the day dad was in handcuffs.
He made his case even worse by attacking the officers during his arrest.
Now that same man was being let out on good behavior…it didn’t add up in my head. Lily looked at my worried face and I pushed my negative thoughts away and put my arms around her, squeezing her tightly
“Are you comfortable with telling me while you’re bent on carrying every single thing from the house?”
She sighed but remained silent. I sat quietly with her and observed the cream painted wall in front of me. Nails were left bare where mum’s crochet bag and a few pictures of us hung. All those things were now set up in her new home.
“It feels like we’re falling apart.” Lily finally said. I waited for her to go on. “With dad around, it was the three of us against the world. But Dad left–and I know he needed to go but… you left, and now I don’t even have mum.” Her eyes shone with tears and she quickly looked away.

mind. All this time she was bottling a fear of being left alone, but still remained supportive.
My grip tightened around her shoulder and I rested my hand on hers. “You know, you’re really the best sister a girl can ask for.”
“Of course I know that. I’m God’s gift to this family.” She responded, but her face didn’t light up like it normally would,
“Things are gonna get better I promise, and if it’s not you, me and mum. It’ll be the both of us for the rest of our lives. You’re going to get sick of me.”
She chuckled and rolled her eyes.
Someone knocked on the door with a playful drumroll and had me and Lily turning out heads. Hannah grinned by the doorway.
1 knocked but no one answered and the door was open so I let myself in.” She explained leaning on the door. It creaked under her weight.
“Hey auntie,”
“Hey love.” She said enthusiastically. Do you have your things ready? I roped Damien into coming here so he could help with the heavy stuff.”
My sister gave me one last look before she smiled at Hannah. “Yea, I’ll help with packing. She went past Hannah as I rose from the bed.
Her grin grew wider as I walked to her.
