‘Wife, I need to take care of something. I’ll be back shortly’ Miles had said to me with a worried look on his face as soon as he drove us into the house, and he drove off without even entering inside. I tried to get him to talk to me about what was going on, but he didn’t say anything before he drove off, and it got me all worried over here.

“Do you need help with anything, ma’am?” Adelie asked as she walked into the living room where I was seated tiredly.

“Just get me a glass of water, please,” I replied to her tiredly. My waist hurt so badly like I had a load on it, and I presumed it could be the pregnancy doing that to me.

“Here, ma’am,” Adelie soon returned with the water and handed it to me.

“Thank you,” I muttered as I took the glass from her and drank from the chilled water, just how I wanted it.

“Do you need help with anything else? Do you want me to massage your feet for you? You must be tired from the…”

“I’m fine, Adelie. You should get some rest too,” I cut her off. I wasn’t a princess, so there was no need for her to be treating me like this.

“Alright, ma’am. Call me if you need anything,” She bowed and finally left.

I breathed out as I relaxed on the couch and rubbed my hand gently on my stomach as a smile laced up my lips. Having a fetus growing inside me was a beautiful feeling and something that always brought a smile to my face each time I thought about it. I could have just waited for everything to be over so I could go to a faraway place and have my baby.

I picked up my phone to text Lily when I heard the sound of a car honking from outside, so I paused and waited for her to come inside.

Five minutes passed before the door finally opened and she walked inside, a deep frown on her face.

“Lily? Are you ok?” I asked her worriedly as I stood up, and she rolled her eyes.

“Miguel is so fucking weird and annoying!” She huffed angrily as she slumped on the couch, and I raised my eyebrows confusingly.

“What are you talking about? Did he do anything to you? Where is he? Why is he not with you?” I bombarded her with questions, but she just scoffed.

“That dude fucking left me on the road to drive myself home. He said he had something urgent to attend to. Can you imagine? Who does that?” She lamented angrily.

“Miles rushed out too. Could it be that something bad happened?” I couldn’t help but get worried.

“You are unbelievable. You are going to talk about your husband alone?” Lily lamented again, and I rolled my eyes.

“Maybe something urgent came up. I’m sure Miguel wouldn’t have left you on the way to sort yourself out. Sorry about that,” I said to her absentmindedly.

“Maybe. But come to think of it, what do you think happened?” She leaned forward and asked me with a worried expression on.

“I don’t know. Do you think I should call Miles and find out what’s happening?” I asked, and she nodded.

“Yes, you should,” That was the only motivation I needed to reach for my phone and dial Miles’s number. It rang for a few minutes and the call disconnected.

“He is not answering his phone,” I looked at Lily and complained.

“You should dial it again. Maybe he didn’t know his phone rang,” Lily suggested, so I dialed the number for the second time, and this time, he picked up almost immediately.

“I was about to call you when your call came in again, wife. I’m sorry, I missed your call,” His voice sounded calm over the phone like everything was fine over there, and I had to ask myself if this was the same man earlier that looked like everything was wrong.

“Hmm… I was just uhm… I was just…” I paused, not knowing how to put it to him so he wouldn’t misunderstand that I was so worried about him. I didn’t want to give him the impression that I liked him or something.

“Is there a problem, wife?” He asked, and I swallowed nothing as I bit into my lip nervously.

“Nothing. I uhm… I mistakenly dialed your number. I was going to call Lilly,” I stuttered, and Lily’s eyes narrowed as she looked at me.

“I’m here with Miguel. He told me Ms. Lily was going to drive herself home, maybe she’s still driving. You should give it some time and call her back,” He explained to me, and I slowly nodded as if he could see me.

“Thank you,” I muttered.

“I have to go now,” He said.

“By the way… Did something happen? Uhm… I’m saying that because of the way you went out earlier. Is everything alright?” I finally asked.

“Yes, I’ve handled it. I’ll be back before lunch. Adelie will attend to you if you need anything. Also, call me if you need anything,” I felt relieved knowing that he was fine.

“Hmm,” I hummed and finally ended the call. I breathed out unknowingly, and I heard Lily scoff.

“What was that?” I looked at her, and she was giving me a look of ‘explain what happened’.

“What do you mean?” I shrugged, and she scoffed.

“You know what I mean. You were so nervous just now when you were talking to Miles. Is there something you are not telling me?” She raised her eyebrows, her eyes preying on me.

“What do you mean something I’m not telling you? Of course, there is nothing,” I tried not to stutter even though I could barely keep my voice calm.

“And who said I was nervous?” I mumbled and turned my face away.

“Babe… You are flushing. Are you in love with Miles?” She asked out of the blue moon, and my jaw dropped to the ground…
