Chapter 11
Chapter 11
“Don, do you prefer chicken potato soup or barley soup?” Gisele asked, her voice soft. There was a hint of joy in her voler as she looked at Dorian.

Dorlan’s face darkened. He held his breath for a moment before he spoke into the phone,” P’ll call you a bit later.”
On the other end of the line, Sierra stiffened the moment she heard Gisele’s voice. Before she could respond, Dorian had already hung up on her.
He said he would call her back later. Was he going to teach Gisele a lesson?
What will he do to her, though?
Sterra’s slender hands balled tightly into fists, making her fingernails dig into her palms. Still, she didn’t react to the pain, even if she felt it.
Gisele averted her gaze from Dorian. She was about to leave when he stopped her.
He stood before her, his dashing face demanding authority like always.
“Are you happy now?” He spat the words out.
“Why should I be?” Gisele raised her head slightly to meet his cool gaze. For a brief, fleeting moment, she felt the urge to gasp out of fright and run back to her bedroom to hide.
But her gaze fell on that spot at the bottom of the stairs where she had fallen the other day, and the cowardice that threatened to overtake her vanished immediately.
It had never been her fault. Why did she have to make herself seem so low and pathetic?
Dorian looked her up and down, and as he did so, he noticed how fair her skin was. Back then, Gisele’s beautiful eyes would purposely avoid his gaze, albeit in a rather unnatural
manner.
Now, they met his gaze steadily, full of determination.
“Very good.” Dorian could only utter these two words after so long.
Gisele had no idea what he meant by that, but she didn’t want to torture herself by giving it much thought.
She grabbed a glass of water and went back to her room. Later, she got a call from Angie.
“Gigi? Did you go back there again?” Angie asked. “Don’t tell me that you pitied that jerk and forgave him for what he did.“.
Angie sounded frustrated, yet Gisele could sense the hesitance in her voice as she gingerly asked that question.
After drinking some water, Gisele sat on the couch in her room, leaned back, and closed her eyes to get some rest.
“That madman dragged me back here,” she said. “But I’ll leave this hell of a place very soon.
“Huh?” Angie was puzzled. Gisele then briefed her on what had happened the day before. Content © NôvelDrama.Org.
“Don’t worry, though,” she said, brushing a stray strand of hair from her forehead. “I’ll get rid of it quickly.”
“Okay then,” Angie said, sounding worried. “Then, will your
Before she could finish, another call came in. Gisele frowned.
“My dad’s calling. Talk to you later,” she said.
“Okay.”
After hanging up, Gisele answered Peter’s call. She was mentally prepared for his barrage of reprimands, but what greeted her was his gleeful voice.
“Oh, my sweet daughter, we’ve managed to ship out our goods! I knew you’d do your job to help me settle this problem!” The joy in his voice was as clear as day.
He continued, “Can you not blame me for scolding you yesterday? You’re married now, so you should obey your husband’s wishes. Our family gets to live a better life as long as you make Mr. Jefferson happy.”
Gisele listened to him speak in silence. She laughed bitterly on the inside. 1
So, that was what Dorian had meant by “very good” earlier. It was because she hadn’t left when he had threatened her the night before.
Even though he was an illegitimate descendant of the Jefferson family, his wit and intelligence won the hearts and admiration of many in the business field.
His control over all his employees and subordinates was practically unmatched.
The method of punishing others and rewarding them for their work wasn’t unheard of. Still, Peter seemed to enjoy being trapped in Dorian’s grasp.
Apparently, he thought it was Dorian’s gift to them..
Gisele inhaled deeply. Then, she voiced the question she had kept to herself for some time.
“Dad, has our company not seen any improvements at all for the past three years?”
What had happened in the last two days wasn’t new. It would definitely happen again. Where had Meyer Group’s money gone?
“What now? So, you want to get money from us because you helped us with something?” Peter snapped.
“Have you forgotten that you’re no longer a part of this family? Whatever happens to the company has nothing to do with you!”
He carried on with his yelling. “All you need to do is take good care of Mr. Jefferson and give birth to his child!”
With that said, he abruptly hung up.
Gisele leaned back on the couch and stared up at the ceiling in silence.
Just then, someone knocked on her door. She then heard Jessie’s voice.
“Madam Gisele, Mr. Dorian said he wants to have his porridge by nine o’clock.”
“Got it,” Gisele responded as she got up from the couch.
Regardless of what had happened, Dorian had helped the Meyers with their business. Even if she didn’t feel like it, she still had to do what she was told for the sake of her family. 1
She recomposed herself and walked to the door. When she opened it, she saw Jessie standing
in the doorway..
“Madam Gisele, it’s not like I don’t want to make the porridge for Mr. Jefferson,” Jessie explained helplessly. “It’s just that he’s used to having the porridge you make.”
“It’s fine, Jessie. I get it,” Gisele replied with a smile.
If she hadn’t insisted on making Dorian food every day for the past three years, he wouldn’t have gotten used to her cooking. She was the one to blame for this.
Gisele scoffed. Just about anyone could live after losing someone in their life. That was why…
An indecipherable look flashed across her face. Suddenly, she seemed to be in a good mood.
It was as though she had figured everything out. She was no longer indecisive or unsettled.
Jessie’s heart broke for Gisele. She knew just how much Gisele had suffered.
After all, Jessie was the only person who knew Gisele’s suffering since she had been there by the latter’s side every day.
Somehow, Gisele seemed to possess this sort of magical ability, which gave her the streng and resilience to do whatever she wished.
Dorian stared at his laptop screen in the study, occupied with work. All of a sudden, there was a commotion downstairs.
Furrowing his brows, he glanced at the door of the study.
The soundproofing qualities of the walls in Jefferson Manor weren’t that bad, not to mention the 15– foot height of the ceiling, which reduced any noise from reaching the second floor.
Usually, the noise from downstairs couldn’t be heard on the second floor. Soon, he heard the noise again and again.
Dorian scowled. He hadn’t slept well enough the night before, hence his foul mood. Standing up, he massaged his temples and opened the door.
He left the study and headed downstairs to see what was going on..
Gisele ran all over the room with a wooden bat in one hand and a basin in another, chasing a half– plucked chicken.
The chicken had a wound on its neck, and it dashed around the house without any intention of slowing down.
Dorian watched in astonishment as the chicken ran around, dripping blood on the clean white tiles of the house. His face turned as dark as the midnight sky.
“Gisele!” He forced the words through gritted teeth. “What the hell are you doing?”
In the middle of the messy living room, Gisele stopped running. She raised her head to look
at him.
“What? Have you never seen a person kill a chicken?” she asked. “Didn’t you say you wanted to have potato chicken soup?”
That said, a look of annoyance flashed across her face, as if she were blaming him. She then continued her pursuit of the half–plucked chicken that was half–alive.
A vein pulsed on Dorian’s temple. He didn’t believe that it would take so much effort to kill a chicken.
He wouldn’t believe that the person who sent the cooking ingredients wouldn’t have the decency to kill the chicken before sending meat to the manor either.
After Gisele had chased the chicken for about five minutes, it lost too much blood and stopped running for good. Gisele grabbed the chicken firmly by its neck.
Before Gisele went back into the kitchen, she waved at him with the chicken in one hand and beamed. “I’ll be right back! Your meal will be served soon!” she said.
Her voice was as sweet as honey that seeped into his heart. Only then did Dorian realize that Gisele’s voice actually sounded pleasant to the ears.
Gisele prepared the food really quickly. After cleaning the ingredients, she tossed them into a pot to simmer. The steps to make the chicken potato soup were very easy.
Time passed. Soon, it was 11:00 am.
Gisele stood beside the dining table in an immaculate chef’s uniform and an apron tied to her waist.
Dorian stared at the food on the table with an unpleasant look on his face.
He gritted his teeth and asked, “Are you sure you didn’t prepare this out of spite?”
