Chapter 18
Just then she felt a hand touch her from behind.
She turned swiftly and to her surprise, she saw a familiar face staring at her with a smile on his face. She frowned immediately as she saw him.
“Rhoda!” The figure called out surprised to see her standing outside a hotel with luggage beside her.
“Liam!” Rhoda called out, she wondered how he still recognized her with her covering her face and all.
“What are you doing here by this time of the night? It’s late ” Liam said and Rhoda swallowed hard.
“I should be asking you that,” Rhoda said and Liam smiled.
I came here for a client. He’s lodging here for the night, I just came to make sure he’s comfortable and getting special treatment.
It took a lot from us to make the client agree to come to Atlanta to discuss business with us, so we can’t afford to make him feel uncomfortable” Liam said and Rhoda stared at him wondering who was the “we” he was talking to about.
Rhoda and Liam were neighbors when they were both children. They never liked each other when they were little, and for some reason, they were never on good terms.
After Liam lost his father, they moved out of the neighborhood and went to live in south Fulton. he was just ten years old. That was the last time they saw each other.
Until they came across each other years ago, in a big mall in Atlanta, Liam approached Rhoda, and Rhoda was surprised to see him. They both greet each other like they have never been enemies from childhood. After many years they met again today in front of a hotel.
“Why don’t we go sit at the hotel bar and talk,” Liam said as he felt Rhoda was tired from standing.
“Sure,” Rhoda said and dragged her luggage to the hotel bar with Liam trailing behind her.
She sat on a chair, while Liam sat opposite her.Content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
“Care for a drink?” Liam asked and she nodded negatively.
“No, I’m okay” Rhoda responded
“Okay. So, you wouldn’t want to tell me why you were seen alone outside the hotel?” Liam said and Rhoda sighed softly. She cannot afford to tell Liam, she’s married and her husband kicked her out of the house. It would be so embarrassing to tell him.
She just needed to tell him some sort of lie to gain his sympathy and he might give her some money since he’s looking rich” Rhoda thought as she stared at Liam.
Liam raised his eyebrows waiting for her to speak.
“I was just coming back from the airport. I had gone on vacation to Canada and I just came back today, I decided to lodge in this hotel for the night only to find out my card had been stolen and I have no cash with me” Rhoda said and sniffed. She wiped an invisible tear as she pretended she was crying.
“You don’t have to cry,” Liam said as he stared at her with pity in his eyes.
“No, you won’t understand. I do not have any cash with me now and I need to get some things for myself, ” Rhoda cried. Liam brought out his handkerchief and gave it to her to wipe her face.
“Thank you,” she said and took it from him and wiped her tears. Liam kept staring into her face like he was searching for something.
He didn’t know why but he felt so much pity for Rhoda and felt like helping her because she needed help. He stared at her with lots of thoughts going through his mind and just then an idea popped into his head.
“I’m willing to help you, I’m willing to give you five times whatever you just lost in that card but I want something in return” Liam paused and Rhoda opened her eyes wide in shock.
She knew he was rich, she’s never been wrong about anything. She just needed to put on a little act to gain his sympathy and she already did. Oh, Rhoda, you are such a drama queen, she thought as she smiled inwardly.
But on second thought, she wondered what he wanted in return. If it was her body, she would willingly offer it. She’s ready to do anything just to get that money. It would help her survive and take her revenge on Hannah and Jeff, she thought.
“What do you want in return?” Rhoda asked
“I want you to pretend to be someone,” Liam said and Rhoda stared at him with a confused expression.
“Act like I’m someone. Like I’m going to act as an imposter?” Rhoda asked and Liam nodded in response.
“Ok then, I’m willing to do it, you just have to tell me what to do,” Rhoda said and Liam smiled at her.
Rhoda had just saved him from a lot of stress. For some time now Brandon and Liam hadn’t been on good terms with each other.
Brandon seems to be angry with Liam for what he did to him years ago by making him force himself on a stranger. He had threatened to cut off his friendship with Liam.
But Liam had pleaded with him and Brandon told him he would reconsider if he finds the girl and bring her to him so he would make it up to her for that night.
Since then, Liam had been doing anything in his power to find the girl but everything seems to be difficult and unfruitful.
And now he’s found someone to act like the girl, he felt so happy because things would go back to normal between him and Brandon again. He just cannot afford to lose their friendship and he would do anything to keep it together.
Just then, Liam excused himself as he brought out his phone and dialed Brandon’s phone number.
“Yes?” Brandon said coldly as he answered the phone call, he had told Liam he shouldn’t call his phone if it wasn’t business, that’s to tell how angry he was for what he did.
Liam took a deep breath as he stared at Rhoda who was sitting on the chair, smiling all to herself. He was about to lie to his best friend, and he felt so much guilt about it but at the same time, he cannot afford to lose their friendship.
Whatever he was doing, he was doing it so they can both be close like they used to be.
“Brandon” Liam called and swallowed into nothing.
“I found the girl from that night”
