Chapter 72
The meeting started on a good note as he explained of the certain Mr. Williams who had been apprehended for having a hand in the missing funds but there was a problem as one of their shareholders insisted he wanted to pull out his investment from the company.
“But we are trying our possible best to see to it that everything is handled perfectly well like I said we have caught the first culprit” Paxton explained to Mr. Louis who was hell bent on pulling out and somehow he had managed to rally some of the others from the board.
“I like seeing my money grow and having to find that everything might go downhill is crazy” Mr. Louis commented in determination.
“What we are trying to say here sir is that we are trying our best to find out who else is involved and if we all back down now our reputable and once cherished company might go down the drain” Sydney chimed in when she saw how frustrated Paxton was getting.
He had clenched and unclenched his hands numerously as though he was trying to calm himself down.
If there was any way she could help salvage the matter then it had to be now.
“And then do we sit and fold our arms when all is going down the drain? Another chimed in as he looked intently at Sydney trying to intimidate her but she didn’t fret.
“Exactly why we need to be together as the one happy board of directors we have always been and make sure we fight this common enemy who wants to leech from our hard work” Paxton finally spoke after he had calmed down.
“You have some connections we can use to track down these men and not just that we can be able to use those connections to make this Williams guy tell us who he is working for” Paxton said looking at Mr. Louis deep in his eyes.
Looking at him she realized that he was extremely tired and somehow she felt so sorry for him and she knew that he was stressed up,
She knew that he could handle everything but this sure hit him so strong that she could not imagine being in his shoes as a CEO. Seeing him massage the sides of his head because of his exhaustion only made her to think he was the better person to be here.
She knew if Jaxton was to handle this meetings the anger in him would not contain the utterances from these other men who sat across from them.
After having a back and forth quarrels at the office Paxton and Sydney just sat there watching them give opinions of what they wanted to happen.
“After hearing all of what each of you have said, I would like to say I feel whatever is happening here might just be one of us here” he said looking at Mr. Louis.
“Why does it feel you are talking to someone specific?” Mr. Louis asked fidgeting with his hands as though there was something he was trying to convey by doing that.
“Is there something else you wish to tell us?” Paxton asked looking towards Mr. Louis.
“Nothing that isn’t what we are dealing with right now” He responded sarcastically and then turned his face towards the document before him.
“If there isn’t anything else to discuss then I would like to say we push this meeting forward” Paxton said irritably and got up dismissing the other grumbling of the Board.
Trying to be an arse Mr. Louis followed Paxton right beside the elevator.
“You know it would not be such a bad idea if you sold the company to me because as you can see you seem to be losing your mojo from this cooperate world business” he said and although this should have gotten Paxton mad he looked and then ignored him.
Sydney who stood by Paxton as a petite woman she was praying deep for no altercation to begin because she knew Paxton had been holding himself for the entire meeting from saying whatever it was he wanted to say.
“Why do you seem to be too interested in getting my company Louis?” Paxton asked raising his brows cynically.
“I am trying to salvage the situation Mr. White, can’t you see everything is going down the drain for this company?”
Just then the elevator door pinged and that was when Paxton held onto Sydney’s hands and then without another word he closed the elevator doors and the ride was weird and quiet.
They finally got to the last floor of the restaurant and she came out frist and she tried some small talk.
“Paxton, are you okay?” she asked but she received a cold stare as he didn’t respond and headed towards the car door and opened and got in as she followed suit.
The car ride was quiet still Sydney felt she could break the ice.
“So I was thinking maybe….” She was cut short in her tracks.
“Stop thinking Sydney and focus on whatever it is you have to do to salvage this situation” Paxton yelled as they had gotten to the company packing lot leaving her dumbfounded and somehow hurt because all she was trying to do was get him out of his foul mood.
Maybe she tried wrongly and not at the least did she think he would take it to extremes.
She was not mad at him at least she knew for a fact that his actions where justified, he was stressed and maybe she was disturbing his quiet moments of thoughts to a solution for the company.
She watched as he walked and entered his office and immediately slumped on the chair. He looked so down and she walked by Jaxton’s office and he was frantically on the phone thinking so deep and also when he made eye contact with her he simply just waved.Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
Sydney left and went into her office.
