Chapter 12
This was the question he was curious to know its answer.
“Why are you both quiet? Paxton’s voice ate her up, she turned to Jaxton, her eyes filled with tears, he turned to his brother,
“It’s bad to eavesdrop on a conversation”
“I try to mind my business but you two are not helping me do that, your voices got to me from my office,” he said calmly, he turned swiftly to Sydney,
“I underestimated you. How close are you with my brother for him to know a secret of yours you badly don’t want to tell anyone? He was playing mind games and Jaxton was aware of it. He had to step in before it was late
“Can you just stop? Paxton turned to him,
“And why should I?
“Because she was a friend of mine even before she got the job and that has got nothing to do with how she came here. We met here.”
Paxton doesn’t need to know what they are keeping but he was curious and partly jealous that his brother was so close off to this lady,
“Yes, we’re friends and that’s that,” she said with finality.
“Well, that no my problem to worry about, I came to take the files home,” he walks past her to her table and then grabbed the files before walking out, leaving the two confused.
“Did he just leave in his own Accord?” She asked, she thought he would have pressed in for answers.
“That’s Paxton for you. He hates invading people’s privacy as much as they do with his.” He explains,
“Ohhh, very nice of him” she can’t believe she praised him. She was relieved when Paxton left them.
“Since you’re done for tonight, I came to pick you up for dinner” he winks causing her to laugh,
“Dinner? Again? What’s with you and dinner with me these days? She asked,
“Well enjoy it whilst it last. So let’s go?”
“Yh,” she grabs her bag and they both left the office.
Next morning……
Sydney walked into the lounge with high spirits, last night was superb. Her eyes fell on Miss Dana, seem disorganized that morning, Miss Dana was rarely disorganized, she walked up to her counter,
“Hi, Miss Dana. What seems to be the problem this morning? You don’t seem fine.” Miss Dana as everyone called was a married woman, almost in her late thirties but she was a widower, and to always make her feel young, everyone addressed her as Miss Dana.
“Oh Sydney. I suggest you stay out of his way today. He seems out of it” she arched her brows.
“Huh? He’s always perfect with everything what happened?” She sneered, Miss Dana glared at her,
“What? He’s always a snub.”NôvelDrama.Org © 2024.
“Sydney?” She called.
“Sorry” she laughs.
“He’s looking for a file, you worked on yesterday. It bared the Taiwan investors’ marketing strategy”
“Yh, I gave it to him probably he missed placed it,” I sneer,
“Go help him look for it”
Huh? But” Miss Dana shot her a glare, she sighs then walked into the elevator, heading to his office, she opened the door, and the scene shocked her,
The place looked like a place hurricane passed through, his jacket was off and tie loosened, and he was sweating and out of breath despite the Air-conditioning.
“Good morning, Sir. Miss Dana said you were….?
“Get out!” He was pissed, up the fact that she was with his brother last night pissed him off,
“But sir,?
“Sydney Shepherd can you just let me be!!! It’s not like you’re of any use to this company. Very incompetent and lazy !!! Your presence irritates me a lot. So do me the honors and get your filthy self out of my office!!!” She Froze, this was the first time someone had talked so down on her but this hurts, her chest was breeding pain from his hurtful words, hot tears accustomed her eyes,
“Are you close to anything kind? I do not know what I did to you for you to hate me this much!! I am not incompetent!!! You are the one whose incompetent!!! You sit behind those chairs a d other us around like we’re your slaves!!! Paxton White!! You are cold-hearted and hold no emotions. Your soul is as black as ebony! Nonsense!” And at this moment Sydney also got angry and exploded catching Paxton off guard Sydney realize what she has done but it was too late.
She panicked when she realized she has went too far. She saw Paxton’s cold expression and knew she was in trouble.
“I see you have the guts now, find that file or you’ll lose your job” his voice was calm but deep, and with that, he walked out banging the door so hard that it startled her. Knowing, how hard she worked to get this job and she didn’t wanna lose it
She began searching from his office to hers even to the trash bin. Jaxton called her as usual and he wouldn’t hear any excuse if she didn’t pick up,
“Hello?”
“Hey, are you going to be free today?”
“I can’t.”
“Why?” He frowned at the other side, she explained everything that transpired and his brother’s threat.
“How can I help you?”Jaxton offered to help but she refused.
“No, don’t worry. What would people think when they see you help me out? Don’t worry I’d be fine” she added
“Are you sure?” He wanted to make sure, but she replied,
“I am fine.” She then hung up and looked around,
“Where the hell are you this file” she cussed, she was already tired.
She searched for the entire day and found nothing, she was already drained and about to give up when Jaxton walked in,
“Don’t look for it anymore” he says simply,
“You don’t under do you, Jaxton? My life depends on that file” she was almost on the verge of tears,
“I came to tell you that Paxton had already found the file. Paxton found it in midday and did not tell you” he explained,
“Even the meeting is done already. So take a rest. I figured you would still be looking for it while I was in the meeting.” he added, after what she heard the annoyance grew but she t took it in.
She already knew Paxton didn’t tell her on purpose he wanted to punish her.
“Go home and rest, you have eye bags already” Jaxton had to let Sydney be for today.
She head home, took a hot bath, and soon landed on her bed, she was swamped with work
“I haven’t had a good rest since I started working for the Whites.” She had no choice anyway it was better than stripping, tears filled her eyes, she was frustrated and Paxton was not helping matters amidst the tears she fell into a deep slumber.
