Chapter 34
"I'm sure that Mr. Gray is so proud to have not only a stunning wife but also a beautiful daughter like Miss Sophia." Steven Osborne, another one of the men added.
"I wonder which young master would be lucky to marry such a beautiful woman. Hey, why don't we have a bet and see who gets her first?"
It was one of the games they played to kill time and for fun. This text is © NôvelDrama/.Org.
Steve Osborne quickly gave up when he heard Peter's suggestions. "Nah, we all know David will win as he always does. I'm out?" He said, glancing at one of the men sitting next to him.
Jack Hall laughed, "Haha. Great. Don't regret it and keep your word."
Alex, who was hearing the whisper from the men sitting at the next table, swirled the champagne in hand indifferently. Even though he was not doing it intentionally, his graceful aura absorbed admiration from every corner.
While the other men's eyes were glued on Sophia, his eyes fell on Roseline every now and then, and he found her strangely desirable.
She's different. Smart. Great at acting. Intriguing.
Then Jack suddenly remembered something and mentioned, "Ah, I heard that the first young Miss of the Gray family is back in the country but I haven't seen her yet."
"Are you talking about Roseline Gray?" Peter asked and Jack nodded his head at him.
David Parker scanned around and spotted their target, "Is she the plain-looking girl standing next to her sister Sophia Gray? She isn't very noticeable, is she?"
Wearing an elegant, long white simple round neck satin bell-sleeved dress. She had her long hair tied up into a top knot bun, adorned with a jade bracelet and necklace, Roseline looked a bit out of place. Her attire had seemed to successfully conceal her pretty face, especially standing next to the glittering Sophia and Beatrice. Compared to them, she looked rather simple.
Steve, who had been spoiled by beautiful women, looked at Rose and he wasn't kind with his comments. "Ha. What a shame. The Gray's eldest daughter is ugly! No wonder she had been sent out of the country."
On hearing one of the men's comments, Alex lifted his brow and his expression turned darker. Though he didn't say anything, somehow, he felt like he had been insulted.
Rose seemed to sense something among the whispering and turned to look at their direction, nonchalantly. Immediately the guys saw her turning to them, Peter blew her a kiss, Steve rolled his eyes at her, and Jack raised his glass respectfully and David smirked at her. They were all expecting a bashful face as usual. Teasing girls was something they would do for fun, and they knew well how it usually worked, judging by experience.
Alex on the other hand, calmly took a sip of champagne. Even though he saw the men action towards Rose, he knew the guys would not be getting what they were hoping.
And just like Alex predicted, they failed unexpectedly. Rose glanced over them with her lifeless eyes, her face showing no hint of emotion except a slight frown when she caught the image of Alex sitting two tables away from the group of guys.
'Great, a bunch of boring rich boys and a man who screams trouble. Noted.' Rose thought.
Then she locked her eyes at the ground like she'd spotted something valuable, just to avoid attention.
Her attire tonight was thoroughly planned and arranged by her step-mother. Just like she promised her daughter, Beatrice had made sure Rose looked her worst and received not a single praise.
However, she was unaware that there was always a more powerful weapon than a beautiful look.
Rose knew she had to impress
people tonight, in a way that they would remember her forever. Just
venet
like her mother, Ruby does. Ruby was the kind of woman that whenever she walked into a place whether she was dressed extravagantly or not, she always made sure that throughout the entire event, she was the highlight of everything. That was just how Ruby's influence is and there was still no one who could beat it.
Well, Rose wasn't trying to beat her mother's status, in fact she was trying to remind everyone who's daughter she was.
Jack was shocked at Roseline's reaction, and his jaw dropped, "What the hell?! Is there something wrong with that girl?"
They were not used to a reaction like that at all, as women would normally flock around them. It was the very first time they had encountered one that took no notice of them.
Peter was outraged as well, "What?! Did she just ignore us?"
So was Steve. "That's insulting. Oh, wait. I guess she's playing hard to get. Aha, how cunning." He sneered at Rose.
They were not someone that would easily accept a cold welcome from any woman. "Time for fun." The rest agreed heartily.
Alex just sat there watching how the four to five group of men stood up from their seats with a small frown on his face. David led the group to where Sophia was standing, it was obvious that he was the leader of the small group but he had rarely said anything.
They all possessed their own charm, be it handsomeness, elegance, gentleness, or majesty. Attention followed them wherever they moved, with constant screams of adoration and excitement from the female spectators.
Sophia was ecstatic, and her face reddened, her heart racing, "Roseline look, they are coming towards us! Oh, my god. Oh, my god. I'm so excited." She nugged Rose's hand, excitement obvious in her actions.
Rose knitted her brows, 'Yeah, and so? What's to be excited about? They are just some rude, ignorant plastic dummies?' she thought, not understanding why Sophia was on top of the world just because of a bunch of handsome playboys.
Though Sophia was usually proud
and self-assured, she couldn't help withdrawing her pride in front of them. Just like most other women she admired and adored them. Whichever event she knew they would attend, she would make sure she was there. Sadly, they had never paid any attention to her.
Watching them walking towards her, she murmured breathlessly, "They are the most priceless bachelors. They have business all over the world, endless money to spend. Who doesn't want to be with them? Look over there, Alexander king, he is every woman's dream..."
