Chapter Eleven
Chapter Eleven
Lula Lopez
“Do you guys need a ride?”
I was surprised to see Rosa Santiago offer help to someone. She rarely even helps herself! But I guess sometimes, break-ups bring out the best in people. I was glad that she was starting to become a better person.
Although her offer was tempting, I just couldn’t bear to see my car abandoned here. I should get her fixed up nicely. “Thanks for the offer, Rosa, But I need to fix it up.”
“Oh, that’s fine.” A look of disappointment washed over her face. “Well in that case, I’ll have my mechanic come check out your car, he runs the only mechanic shop in town. We can have your car towed to his shop ASAP.”
“Wow! Thank you, Rosa”. I hugged her. Maybe she is not so bad like Javier described. I mean, I knew her some years back and I must admit that Rosa Santiago is rather obnoxious and full of herself. Sometimes, I doubt that she even sees anyone other than herself. But I guess she has changed. This belongs © NôvelDra/ma.Org.
“How do you know this town so well?” Javier asked her, her face went a little pale before she smiled brightly again.
“Don’t you remember, Javier? I told you my dad lived in this town, come on. Or were you only interested in fucking my sweet pussy?”
I raised an eyebrow at her vulgarity. My line of sight glided over to Javier, the veins in his neck were popping out. The look he gave Rosa could kill if it wanted to.
“Um, thanks Rosa”. I inputted, hoping to cut the tension.
Javier turned his attention back to me. “Let’s get a motel instead.”
He and I shared a knowing look when he mention the word ‘motel’, and a grin appeared across his features, I must have burst out laughing because I was in tears a minute later. Rosa shifted her glances between us, perplexed by what was making us laugh.
“Inside joke,” I stated honestly. This did not make the look on her face any less intense. I could swear I saw jealousy flash through her eyes, but just immediately, she masked it with a smile. I felt guilty for traveling with her ex when it isn’t like she did me wrong. Not to mention the fact that I tried to seduce him. I only asked for sex and nothing else, but I guess that doesn’t make it any better. If only Celia was this considerate about my feelings as I was being considerate of Rosa’s.
Does her being a mean girl make her deserve to be hurt?
My thoughts grew more shallow as a wave of cold wind hit my skin. This was a contrast to the heat on this journey so far; At least, the summer heat will be a bit bearable now. But just as the cool breeze came, drizzles followed it quickly.
Rosa went over to her car as Jenny walked right behind her. “You guys coming?”
Javier’s whispering voice met my ears. “I don’t trust her, let’s go somewhere else.”
I looked into his eyes. “Come on, Javier, just for one night I promise. It’s gonna start raining heavily soon and there ain’t no time to find a motel. Look at this almost deserted town, can we find a decent motel around here? I don’t think so.”
He sighed defeatedly. “I’ll get our stuff, you just go to the car.” He headed toward the car.
“Thank you, partner.” I went to join Rosa and Jenny. Since the back seat was the only one available, I took a seat there, and soon, Javier came with my luggage. He put it in the truck and joined me in the back seat. He then handed me my phone, but the battery was dead!
The drive was awkward. Except for the sound of Rosa’s car’s engine and Jenny’s tapping sound on her phone, the ride was silent. Javier and I exchanged looks occasionally, then I’d catch Rosa’s eyes watching me through the rearview mirror. Her sharp almond eyes had their way of making me feel more guilty for having an inside joke with her ex. I tried to put myself in her shoes, but I just could not. Our situations were entirely different, she acted like a total bitch to a good man, while I-I gave my all to Carlos, yet he did me dirty. If I wanted to be a bitch about everything, I would have still attempted to fuck Javier in her presence, but I will refrain myself… or maybe not.
“We’re here, guys,” Rosa announces as she rolled up into an estate. The gates opened and closed automatically, the road from the gate led up a path. A path in between forest trees.
Greenery and all things plants fascinated me since I was a kid, which was why I had a passion for Botany. My mom thought it was stupid, and although she eventually let me follow my dreams, she practically forced me into show biz from a young age. Commercials, children’s movies, you name it, she wanted me in all of them. It’s not easy being the daughter of Luna Lopez, the famous singer and now CEO of an agency. She is partly the reason I ain’t too fond of Mexican music.
I pushed all the bitterness to the back of my mind while I admired some oak trees that lined up on the side of the path-as we approached the gigantic mansion in front.
“Is this your house, Rosa?” I asked the driver.
She gave a half smile, “After my dad’s passing, he gave me this house in his will. You like?”
“I like? You’ve got to be kidding me. I love it!” I looked at Javier who didn’t seem too happy.
She rolled up on the porch of this ginormous house and parked the car. She then turned to us: “Welcome to my home, Lula and Javier,” her face changed to something strange and unreadable. “We’re gonna have so much fun here!”
