Chapter 45
Chapter 45 Strangers
"Why do you care? We're already divorced." Leah appeared indifferent, looking at Quentin as if he were a stranger. "You may leave. I want to have a good rest. Don't bother me anymore."
Her gaze somehow made Quentin feel depressed. He pressed his lips and stared at her.
"Have a good rest, then. I'll be leaving."All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
Then, Quentin turned around and left. When he reached the corridor, he could still hear Janet's accusing voice coming from inside.
"I just can't understand. How did you fall in love with such a scumbag? He once treated you as a free nanny, and now he even came over to mock you, thinking that you're just pretending to be sick. Do you know how I felt when he said those words? I wished I could slap him and cut his heart open to see if it's made of stone!"
"It's all in the past, Janet. I've learned the lesson and will always keep it in mind. I will never make the same mistake again."
"That's true. Since you already know what a scumbag he is, you will never be deceived again."
Quentin got into the elevator and could no longer hear the rest of their conversation.
He couldn't help but reflect on what he had just heard. Then, he turned to Eli and asked,
"Did she do many things that I'm unaware of?"
Eli, caught off guard by the unexpected question, paused for a moment before responding,
"I'm not entirely sure."
Quentin sighed and jeered at himself, his eyes filled with mixed emotions.
"You're right. How could you know anything that I don't know about? Let's go."
Eli nodded. "Okay, Mr. Worthington."
Leah had fully recovered after two days and returned to work at the company.
When she entered her office, Layla approached her with concern. "Miss Wilson, how are you feeling? Better?"
Leah smiled and replied, "Yeah, much better. Thank you for your concern."
"You're welcome."
As Leah began to organize her files, she remembered something and looked up to ask Layla, "How's your family? Is everything solved?"
Layla nodded awkwardly and said,
"Yes. It's not a big deal, actually. Km
used to it. Besides, my mom has a
sharp tongue but a kind heart. She cares about me."
Leah didn't want to pry into others' personal matters, so she just said, "If you need any help, don't hesitate to ask."
Layla felt touched by Leah's caring words and fought back the urge to cry as she thanked her.
"Thank you, Miss Wilson."
"No problem. Now, get back to work," Leah replied before returning to her documents.
"Okay, Miss Wilson." Layla left but returned shortly afterward.
"Miss Wilson, while you were away yesterday, the chief of the business association came to deliver an invitation. They're inviting you to speak at the upcoming business exchange forum of Ocanni City."
Leah recalled that Ethan often gave speeches at such business exchange forums. It was an excellent opportunity to expand one's network and find potential collaborations, with representatives from the top 500 companies in Ocanni City attending.
"Prepare a speech, and make sure it's professional. Double-check for any errors. We can't afford any mistakes," Leah instructed.
Layla acknowledged her instructions. "Understood, Miss Wilson. I'll take care of it."
In the blink of an eye, it was the day of the business exchange forum.
Leah, accompanied by several executives from Lia Jewellery, attended the event.
Coincidentally, the forum was held at a hotel under the Wilson Group.
Therefore, it was more convenient for Leah to deal with this event, and she became less tense.
Anna, who had been trailing behind Leah, kept staring at her from behind with a sinister gaze.
Since her last defeat against Leah, she had been humiliated and lost her reputation among her colleagues. Now, after waiting for so long, she finally had a chance to teach Leah a lesson.
In such a grand event, Anna planned to publicly embarrass Leah and ruin her reputation in front of everyone.
