Accidentally Married

Branch One Hundred and Eighty Six

“That won’t be a problem?” Marcus stammered in a question.

He still had hopes of getting Jessica which made him delay his wedding with Gold. She had been pestering him about it but he always found the perfect excuse for her. Hearing the news that Jessica might have had a child got him all jittery.

“Yes, we have not told anyone this arises from Papa but Jessica is pregnant. We only confirmed it recently” Xavier explained squeezing Jessica’s hands in her lap.

“You confirmed it? I thought it was a marriage by agreement and one of the clauses was against physical contact?”

“Yes, but things happened and here we are” Xavier explained.

He did not see the need to explain to him but he saw the glances he passed at Jessica even a blind man could detect that he was in love with her.

“I was going to call you to cancel the contract but I had not gotten around to it yet” Xavier continued.

The reality hit Jessica. They had both professed their love to each other but maybe hearing him saying he was going to cancel the contract made her realize that they were going to be serious.

“Well okay” Marcus stammered. He tried his best to not allow his face to show his disappointed and betrayed expression. He did not know why but he felt like someone drove a knife through him and turned out of him in a quick succession.

“So what does the will say?” Xavier asked.

“The chairman wrote,” Marcus said as he trailed off. The heaviness of the news he had just heard weighed him down. Xavier tapped on the table in front of him and Marcus woke back to life.

“I am sorry about that,” he said opening the closed file on his lap. “The chairman wrote in his will that all he had and the company including his shares and the shares he inherited from family members should be shared with you and Mrs. Delgado as long as the madam bears a child for the Delgado name”

“Okay, so then that means that we have the right to all the shares because she is already with child?” Xavier asked.

“We need to ascertain the true father of the child”

“What?” Jessica’s voice squeaked out. She wondered what Marcus was saying. Was he accusing her of infidelity or lies? He had first implied she was not with child and now he wanted a paternal test. She had no problem going with the test if any of the family members had asked but it felt weird that he was the one who asked. It made her feel naked and exposed and she did not for once like the feeling.

“Why? Is it a part of the will too?” Xavier asked. He could feel the discomfort of Jessica beside him.

“No it’s not a part of the will and I am not yet done reading the will but to ascertain the credibility of….” he trailed off when he saw the stern expression on Xavier’s face.

“What are you trying to say?” Xavier asked when he trailed off and kept quiet.

“I am not implying anything I am just saying that…” he trailed off again.

The expression on Xavier’s face was too serious to be taken lightly. It was obvious that he was in love with Jessica. He had been reassuring her ever since they sat down and he did not want to hear what it was that he had to say about her.

“It’s a standard procedure to ensure that the child belongs to the Delgado name” he explained. He wanted to confirm by himself who the child belonged to. He did not want to believe that he had lost her so easily.

“I can vouch for her”

“Mr. Delgado with all due respect we need to carry out the test” he explained. This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.

“My wife would not undergo any test of any sort and that is final” Xavier’s voice sounded like a warning he did not want to say twice.

“Mr. Delgado…”

Xavier raised his hands to silence him from going any further. “Did you not hear me before? I don’t want any further discussions about this”

“Xavier?” Jessica said slowly. He turned to face her

“Let’s just take the test, there is no problem with taking the test,” she said and he shook his head.

“No,” he said sternly.

“Come on, let’s just comply with the law so Dawson can have a quiet departure,” she said.

Hearing her final statement Xavier knew he had no option but to give in. “We would only do so yet because she agreed to it otherwise there would have been nothing of such” Xavier said turning to face him. He wanted to send a stern warning to him.

“We would take all the tests here being the recommended hospital used by the family,” Marcus said and he nodded.

He was trying g his best to put his professionalism first and allow every other thing go for now.

“Please prepare to terminate the contract of the marriage,” Xavier said in passing. Of all the things he thought he would be doing in recent times, preparing a termination for Xavier and Jessica was not a part of it.

He nodded and proceeded to read the great of the will. “The chairman has established a foundation to help out those who needed help as regards furthering their education to the end and he wants the Madam to head that foundation and ensure that it is given the adequate attention needed”

Jessica put her hand over her chest. She was shocked that Dawson would ask something so important of her. She did not know how to feel. She was almost tempted to show her gratitude to the lawyer.

“Also he wants a portion of his savings which is fifty percent to go to Ms. Roselle Martinez” he continued.

“Would that be all?” Xavier asked when he kept mute for a while.

“The rest of the savings should be directed at the foundation. Also, Jessica can name the foundation whatever it is she deems reasonable.

“That will be all” he said as he closed the file.

“Were there no special requests for his burial? ” she asked as he closed the file.

“No there were none,” he said as he rose to his feet. “As soon as the DNA results are out, please I should be informed so I can begin the process of transfer of ownership”

Xavier gritted his teeth and stood up.” We will let you know”
