A Successful Career After Divorce

Chapter 7 The Local Tyrant

“Sorry…” Ranita’s voice trembled and she felt a slight sweat on her back. “I’ll do it myself!”

The woman reached out to take the ointment from his hand.

As Ranita’s fingertips touched his skin, it felt as if she had been shocked by electricity, leaving her momentarily stunned.

This was really spineless.

“Ranita…” the man’s voice was very low, and before Ranita could react, he held her chin, taking control as he kissed her.

Brendon was very skilled at kissing; he kissed her until she can’t catch her breath.

“Ring ring!” Brendon’s phone suddenly rang.

Brendon paid no heed and continued to kiss her, causing Ranita’s heart to beat like a drum, irregular and chaotic.

The driver in front knocked on the partition and hesitated before saying, “Mr. Stuart, Miss Murphy called. She said that your mother is ill at home and asked if you could go back home.”

In an instant, the desire dissipated completely.

“You can drop me off at the intersection ahead. I’ll go back to the studio,” said Ranita calmly as she buttoned up her shirt and straightened her short skirt.

“I’ll drop you off at the studio first and then go back to Boulderland Mansion.”

Ranita hitched a ride, changed into the same professional suit at her studio, and rested for half a day before having her assistant drive her back to Stuart’s Corp. Downstairs, she saw Brendon in his impeccably tailored suit and polished shoes.

The hand-tailored suit accentuated his figure, standing tall like a pine tree. Paired with his perpetually serious and excessively handsome face, he was like a walking hormone, able to attract attention from anyone at any time.

The venue for Rashid Bassett’s reception had been set at Autumnhall Manor, where besides Brendon and other executives from the company, a small banquet hall had been reserved to accommodate personnel from Nemotube.

Rashid came from a wealthy local family in Dubai. Although he was responsible for the business of Nemotube in Great Slioclia, he was just a figurehead and will return home after some time.

After exchanging greetings, both of them took their seats. Ranita took the initiative to pour a glass of pre-wakened red wine for Rashid and spoke in a soft tone, “Mr. Bassett, I heard that you particularly like red wine. This is specially prepared by Mr. Stuart for you. Please try it.”

If Brendon can offer it to guests, it must be a good product.

“Great taste!” Rashid exclaimed repeatedly, “Thank you very much, Miss Bowman!”

To satisfy the customer, there was a slight smile in Ranita’s eyes as she said, “Mr. Bassett, if you like it, then I’m happy.”

“You too, please!” Rashid also helped Ranita pour half a cup and said cheerfully, “Cheers!”

“Miss Bowman, you speak Arabic very well, and you’re quite charming. I liked you the moment I saw you,” Rashid paused for a moment and then said very directly, “I wonder if you’re interested in becoming my third wife?”

Ranita was taken aback! Brendon scowled, clearly unhappy.

“Mr. Bassett, you are a very charming man. If my heart wasn’t already spoken for, I would definitely consider your offer!” Ranita maintained a smile and spoke in a soft tone as she politely declined.

Perhaps it was the alcohol, but Ranita’s fair cheeks had a hint of pink to them. Her curved eyebrows and eyes made her clear black pupils shine like stars in the sky.

Spoken for? Brendon mulled over those words and his expression grew even darker as he leaned in close to Ranita’s ear. “Tell him you’re married.”

Ranita wanted to remind him that they had already signed divorce papers, but the words wouldn’t come out of her mouth. Instead she changed the subject, “Mr. Bassett is just joking.”

She couldn’t even win an argument with one person – how could she dare become someone’s third wife?
