Chapter 34 The Same Umbrella
“Don’t overthink it!” Amiya comforted Shannon. “Three years ago, Brendon was also helpless. His grandfather forced him to do it, and he had no choice but to sacrifice you.”
Shannon rubbed her eyes and generously said, “I’m not sacrificing anything! It’s only Brendon who is sacrificing!”
…
Ranita breathed a sigh of relief and felt pretty good. However, she regretted not being able to witness the dog-eat-dog trick with her own eyes!
She opened the trunk of the car and was about to bend down to lift the suitcase when she suddenly heard Brendon’s voice behind her, “Ranita!”
Startled, Ranita glared at him angrily. “You scared me to death!”
Brendon didn’t get angry after being glared at. Instead, he softened his gaze and called her a coward.
Sometimes when Brendon came home late, he would suddenly scare her like this before hugging her waist and fooling around with her in bed.
Ranita’s expression turned cold as she asked, “What do you want?”
“I told you not to wear Steve’s jacket!” With that said, Brendon forcibly took off the jacket on Ranita’s body before taking off his own jacket and throwing it at her. “Wear this one instead!”
Ranita really hated this kind of behavior from him – clearly heartless but always giving her unrealistic expectations.
That night Ranita couldn’t sleep.Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.
The next day at work, Ranita wore a professional suit as usual, but changed into three-inch heels instead of seven-inch ones. She had long straight legs and was very slender even without high heels on.
“Mr. Stuart…” Ranita met Brendon at the company door. They were going to an auction today, and several valuable auction items were shipped in by charter from abroad. Brendon was going there for a look, and will have dinner with the owner of the auction items along the way.
The individuals who can produce these auction items are either wealthy themselves or come from well-known artistic families in the area. This type of dinner was worth Brendon attending in person.
“Have you looked over the information Caleb gave you?” Brendon asked while looking at the documents. “You only need to be responsible for Mrs. Cather.”
The night passed without incident for both of them.
“Um…” She had been doing well with what Brendon had assigned her, “I have already contacted the accompanying translator on their side, so there shouldn’t be any mistakes.”
Silence filled the car ride.
At some point outside, rain began to fall and created a misty white fog.
Suddenly, after a few honks, the car stopped.
“What’s going on?”
“Mr. Stuart, I’ll go check it out. You and Miss Bowman wait here!” The driver went to inspect what was happening with the car and soon returned with a frown on his face, “Mr. Stuart, the car won’t start and we don’t know why!”
“I contacted Caleb; he said he would send another car over immediately to pick you up.”
Ranita checked her watch; they only had thirty minutes left until their scheduled time! Waiting for Caleb’s arranged transportation wouldn’t make it in time!
“Mr. Stuart, we don’t have enough time!”
Brendon glanced at his watch before gesturing towards Ranita, “We’ll just take a taxi.”
Upon hearing that they were going to take a taxi instead of waiting for another vehicle caused concern from their driver, “How can this work… Mr. Stuart… It’s still raining outside! Why not wait…”
But Brendon waved him off saying, “Umbrella!”
Brendon took the umbrella expressionlessly and got off the car first, then turned around and looked down at Ranita. “Aren’t you coming?” he asked.
“Huh?” Ranita raised her eyebrows in surprise, but quickly got off the car and hid under his umbrella.
The black umbrella was wide, but Brendon occupied most of the space. The two of them were a little cramped inside.
To keep her distance, Ranita tried to lean outwards without being obvious. But in the next second, she felt Brendon’s large hand pressing down on her shoulder.
He frowned slightly and spoke with a hint of annoyance in his voice. “Come closer.”
