A Successful Career After Divorce

Chapter 3 No Desire to Renew the Contract

The night was long.

Ranita waited all night, but Brendon didn’t come back.

As dawn approached, she was woken up by her alarm clock after a brief nap.

She got ready quickly and put on her professional suit. To look better, she even put on some makeup before rushing to Stuart’s Corp.

The project meeting with Nemotube Shipping Company went smoothly enough, but the intense concentration made Ranita’s head ache a little bit. And for some reason today, she felt uncomfortable in her stomach.

“Mr. Stuart, I have already organized the content of the meeting.” Ranita placed the documents on his desk and looked at his thin lips.

It’s said that people with thin lips are cold-hearted.Còntens bel0ngs to Nô(v)elDr/a/ma.Org

Brendon was indeed cold-hearted; that was why Ranita envied Shannon who could get tenderness from him.

“I have highlighted what needs special attention,” said Ranita as she withdrew her gaze and took a few steps back to create some distance between them.

She was standing upright in her professional attire, which gave her more of an aggressive edge than when she was submissive at home.

But no matter how different Ranita appeared in Brendon’s eyes, it didn’t matter much to him.

“I know. We need to entertain Mr. Bassett tonight for dinner and you need to attend,” said Brendon as he flipped through the files without looking up from them.

Ranita was an excellent translator who could convert any sharp language into something appropriate for any occasion, which impressed Brendon greatly.

“Okay.” Nodded Ranita before pausing briefly then pursing her lips as if hesitant before asking, “Mr. Stuart, there is one more thing… I want to talk about it with you.”

“What is it?” asked Brendon without lifting his eyes from the file again.

Ranita noticed his golden short hair spiraling upwards along with his full forehead while speaking softly, “After this project ends with Nemotube, I hope not to renew my contract anymore.”

Ranita had opened a translation studio herself where Brendon signed a three-year contract allowing her expertise in overseas projects as their simultaneous interpreter, but their marriage had ended so should their work involvement too?

“Not renew your contract?” questioned Brendon seeming confused by such an immature decision being presented by someone like Ranita. That caused him slight frown lines across his forehead, “Working together with Stuart’s Corp will only benefit your studio.”

Of course, Ranita knew that this decision would not be friendly towards her studio. But since they were starting to cut off this relationship, she did not want to get too close again! The human heart is difficult to control, and she was already deeply trapped in the quagmire. She did not want to go any further and fall into the abyss of no return!

Loving Brendon, in itself, was a mistake.

Ranita remained silent for a long time. Finally, Brendon looked up at her with his sharp and indifferent eyes. He leaned back on the chair and spoke casually,

“Ranita, you’re very professional and have good judgment when it comes to work. Our personal affairs shouldn’t affect our job.” After pausing for a moment, Brendon took out the contract renewal agreement from his drawer without giving Ranita any room to refuse like he did last night. “I don’t want to hear this kind of talk again. You can leave now.”

“Brendon…” Ranita was getting anxious but before she could finish her sentence, the door of the nearby lounge opened and a slender woman called out softly to Brendon, “Brendon!”

“I didn’t interrupt your conversation with each other?” The woman who entered smelled sweetly of perfume like a beautiful butterfly passing by.

Ranita had seen her on TV before – Shannon – the famous cellist who had been making waves in recent years and also happened to be Brendon’s sweetheart.
