Chapter 29 Pressed Against the Wall
Shannon was dirty, and Brendon was in a bad mood, so he didn’t bother eating and left with Shannon. As soon as they left, Ranita leaned back in her chair feeling a chill down her spine. Steve rushed over asking, “Ranita, are you okay?” The restaurant manager had sent someone to explain the situation to him but he still arrived late. “Sorry, I received an emergency call,” said Steve.
“It’s not your fault,” replied Ranita looking up at him with eyes that seemed to have lost their sparkle and were now darkened.
Steve wanted to comfort her but didn’t know how. He knew about Ranita’s feelings for Brendon as an outsider looking in but unfortunately Brendon…
“Dr. Pearson, I’m fine,” continued Ranita calmly with starry eyes that looked like they had fallen into the desert leaving only darkness behind them. “If you’re busy, then go back to the hospital first. I’ll go home later.”
Steve did need to go back to the hospital but he was worried about leaving Ranita alone, “Let me take you home before going back.”
Hearing this made Ranita realize that Steve must be busy with work so she quickly responded, “You must have urgent business if it requires your attention. Hurry up and leave! Drive safely.”
Steve pushed his gold-rimmed glasses up his nose, helplessly saying, “Then I’ll leave first. Get some rest when you get home. Call me if there’s anything.”
After walking two steps away from her, he turned around again handing his thin jacket on his arm over to her saying, “It gets cold at night, so don’t catch a cold.”
“Thank you, Dr. Pearson,” smiled Ranita gratefully showing appreciation for having friends who cared for each other.
But just minutes after Amiya called.
“Ranita, come pick up your things right now or else I’ll throw them away!”Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
Amiya had been humiliated by Ranita last time they met, which made Amiya even more hostile towards her than before.
Ranita hurried to Boulderland Mansion.
At the entrance, she received special treatment. The people at Boulderland Mansion were used to serving her, but their attitude had turned cold since she left.
After waiting for about twenty minutes, the iron gate of Boulderland Mansion finally opened to let her in.
“Miss Bowman, please watch your step, and be careful not to damage anything accidentally. You’ll be held responsible for any damages!” the servant leading her warned in a sarcastic tone.
Ranita pretended not to hear and walked with confidence, heading up to the second-floor master bedroom. Just before entering, the servant reminded her once more, “Miss Bowman, please be quick, Mr. Stuart doesn’t like outsiders in his room.”
The servant’s name was Addyson Calderon, and she was the daughter of Macy, Amiya’s caregiver. Her good looks and college degree were what landed her a job at Boulderland Mansion.
When Ranita married into the Stuart family, Addyson had just started working at Boulderland Mansion. She had always been hostile towards Ranita from the start. At first, Ranita didn’t know what she had done to offend her but later overheard Addyson talking about how much she admired Brendon. She envied Ranita for being Mrs. Stuart despite having no power or influence.
But now all of that was irrelevant.
Ranita glanced briefly at Addyson before pushing open the door to her room – a place where she had lived for three years and could navigate even with her eyes closed.
There was a faint scent of cold perfume in the air as she walked through the bedroom into the closet area where she quickly packed her suitcase without batting an eye before turning off the lights and leaving.
She walked through the bedroom into the adjoining dressing room, swiftly retrieved her suitcase, and packed her belongings without batting an eye. Then, she turned off the lights and left.
Although it was dimly lit, Ranita recognized his familiar scent immediately making shivers run down on spine while hearing his deep voice asking, “Ranita?”
