A Successful Career After Divorce

Chapter 13 Making a Fuss for No Reason

She couldn’t blame anyone but herself. She blamed herself for being so foolish, for loving someone she shouldn’t love.

“Miss Murphy, please let go of my hand.” Ranita’s heart was as cold as it was painful. Her world was crumbling and she feared breaking down in front of Brendon.

“No! Ranita, please don’t be angry. Brendon drank too much and there was a misunderstanding. Please…”

“That’s enough! I don’t want to hear…” Shannon’s every word felt like a boulder smashing into her already shattered heart, causing her vision to darken.

Ranita pushed Shannon away.

“Ah!” Shannon fell backward onto the table corner with a thud and cried out in pain. “It hurts so much! Brendon… my hand hurts so much! I think it might be broken!”

“Ranita, I really didn’t mean for this to happen… I didn’t expect things to turn out like this…”

“Shannon, you didn’t hurt! There’s no need to scream like a slaughtered pig…” Before the sentence could be completed, a shadow came forward and stood in front of her, gently comforting Shannon, “Are you okay? Don’t cry!”

“Wuwu! Brendon, it really hurts! Can you help me blow on it? Whenever I used to get hurt, you would help me, and then the pain would go away!”

Blow?

Did she think she was a three-year-old child?

“I didn’t use any force at all!”

“But it really hurts! Look at my arm; the skin is broken!”

Ranita turned her head, and the man looked down at her coldly, “Ranita, I will explain things to you later. Don’t make a fuss for no reason!”Material © of NôvelDrama.Org.

Her heart grew colder than ever before.

Was she making a fuss?

Finally unable to hold back any longer, Ranita spoke up, “Brendon, although we signed divorce papers, legally you are still my husband until then. You were sleeping around with another woman right in front of me yet accuse me of being unreasonable?”

Faced with this accusation, Brendon remained silent while Shannon continued crying and holding onto his hand tightly.

Ranita, her head already spinning, coldly glanced at Brendon and walked towards the dressing table. She found the accidentally dropped flash drive in the corner and turned to leave.

“Ranita!” Brendon grabbed her wrist. “I will figure this out and talk to you properly. Don’t be angry.”

Although they were living separate lives after their divorce, legally they were still married. Brendon had never intended to cheat during their marriage.

As he held her hand, she could feel the warmth of his touch.

In the past, she loved holding his hand, feeling the warmth like being wrapped in a cozy cashmere blanket. Ranita knew she should let go, she should feel disgusted, but with his grip, her heart softened.

“I’ll walk you out,” Brendon said as he casually put on his coat.

Ranita didn’t say anything during their walk and neither did Brendon until they reached Dylan standing at the door.

Brendon frowned slightly and his tone turned cooler than before. “Is that the Webster family’s second son?”

“Hey there!” Dylan waved when he saw her, grinning broadly. “Got everything? Let’s go!”

He took Ranita’s bag from her hands without waiting for an answer from either of them.

Brendon was ignored completely and his face darkened a few shades. “I’m heading to work too so just come with me in my car instead of bothering others,” he said to Dylan who he actually knew but wasn’t close with yet.

He narrowed his eyes at Dylan before adding, “Give me Ranita’s bag.”

Without waiting for an answer, Brendon grabbed hold of Ranita’s bag himself.
