The Cherished Wife

Chapter 538

Peter smirked. "Didn't expect you to care about these things!" Then, he added, "It's the weekend. I thought you'd be busy."

"I am busy, and I didn't really want to come," Charles replied bluntly. Peter narrowed his eyes, his piercing gaze landing on Charles. His long fingers tapped lightly on his knee. "About the West City project, are you sure you want Lennon Group involved?"

"What else?" Charles paused, rubbing his thumb against the base of his index finger. "I thought Lennon Group would be an ideal partner in Brookville."

"But you should also know that I'm not the one in charge of Lennon Group anymore," Peter remarked casually, though his tone did not reveal much emotion. "The old man divided my power and gave part of it to Rex."

"I trust you can handle it. Plus, that's an internal matter, and I won't interfere. But let's be real-are you seriously not planning to take full control of Lennon Group?" Charles asked, his sharp eyes flashing.

For Charles, Lennon Group was like an unwanted burden. If it were not for Peter, he would have taken action long ago.

Peter narrowed his eyes, falling silent for a moment. "I've found her."

Charles' expression changed slightly, his fingers tensing. "Are you thinking of bringing her back?"

They both knew who they were talking about—the woman who left and whose departure plunged Peter and the entire Hoffmans into an unprecedented stalemate.

If it were not for Peter, Charles would have already moved against Lennon Group and the Lennon family.

"But you must remember, the one who hurt her the most was the Lennon family; it was you. Bringing her back might not be what's best for her. You know me. If her return means she'll be hurt, I won't allow it," Charles stated firmly.

For Charles, Tania was not just Henry's daughter; he regarded her as his own sister. When Clarisse left after a fallout with Mateo, Charles grew up without his mother by his side.

His father drowned himself at work, and it was Henry and Nancy who took care of him. Charles' affection for Tania stemmed from the mistaken belief that she was his uncle's child.Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.

Back when Tanja and Peter got together, Charles did not know that Tania was Henry's daughter. By the time he found out, too much had already happened between Peter and Tania-too many complications that made separation impossible.

Peter was silent for a while before suddenly looking up at Charles. "I've waited too long, Charles. You probably don't know what it's like to wait for someone. I just want her back, even if it means I'll end up shattered. I'm more than willing."

Charles furrowed his brows and rubbed his forehead. "You're my pal. Of course, I wouldn't do anything against you. But I also think of Tania as my sister, and I won't let her be harmed. If her return means facing the Lennon family, what will you do? I hope you understand."

"I get it. I'll handle everything. Once things are settled here, that will be the time for her to return."

Charles pursed his lips. It was the first time he had heard Peter speak like this.

The feeling of waiting for someone... he said?
