Recalling those unbearable experiences, Cynthia felt like her heart was bleeding. She closed her eyes for a moment, her gaze landing on Shirley’s photo.

Being the sole heir to the Jones Group, Shirley had no reason to apply for the position of secretary assistant at BJ when she had everything going well in the company. ‘It must be because of Jonathan, Cynthia couldn’t help but smirk.

The Jones family was quite prominent in Roncrity, but when compared to the Bennett family, which was the richest in the country, they barely registered as a small fry. Shirley’s ambitions seemed rather impractical,

Just then, the office door swung open. Jonathan’s tall figure appeared in the doorway, dressed sharply in a suit, looking weary from travel.

Cynthia didn’t get up; her serious little face instantly transformed into one of warmth and smiles. “You’re back?”

Jonathan looked at the woman curled up in his office chair, relaxed and lazy like a cat. Her bright, radiant smile instantly lit up the entire office.

He walked over and swept Cynthia into his arms. Caught off guard, Cynthia had no choice but to cling to his waist, surprised at first, but then smiling. There was a teasing glint in her eyes. “Did you miss me that much?”

Jonathan’s gaze deepened as he looked intently at the enchanting woman before him. His large hand rested on her waist, the soft feel of her skin intensified his longing.

Three days apart had truly felt like an eternity, “What spell did you put on me?” he joked.

Cynthia spent quite a while in Jonathan’s office,

In the afternoon, she received a phone call from Justin. “Cynthia, come home for dinner tonight. You haven’t been home in, a while, and I miss you so much.”

What he said made Cynthia want to cry.

In

truth, Justin had treated her well. When Selena insisted on kicking her out of the house and severing ties, it was Justin who intervened. Moreover, at the welcome party for Shirley, he publicly declared that Cynthia would always be a part of the Jones family.

“Okay, I’ll come home tonight.” Cynthia stood up, grabbed her bag, and walked toward Jonathan.

Jonathan was busy handling documents. Despite looking like a pampered pretty boy, when focused, he had an indescribable charm.

Cynthia walked over to Jonathan, placing a hand on his shoulder and leaning down to kiss his cheek. “I’m leaving now; you don’t have to wait up for me tonight.”

Just as she straightened up, Jonathan pulled her back into his embrace and kissed her fiercely for a moment.

He had always been like this. He could be all business when he needed to be, but when he let loose, he was really wild. He didn’t even mind that they were in the office, and Claude could walk in at any moment.

“Where are you going?” After he had kissed her enough, he finally released her.

Cynthia was wrapped in his arms, soft as a kitten, yet her eyes sparkled with the cunning of a little fox. “It’s a secret.”

She gracefully rose to her feet, like a butterfly taking flight, leaving a trail of fragrance before disappearing into the floral

maze.

In the evening, Cynthia arrived at the Jones residence. The housekeeper, Julia, was particularly delighted to see her, warmly welcoming her inside.

“Cynthia, you’re finally back! Mr. Jones said you’d be home tonight, so I specially made your favorite durian cheese tart. Be sure to have plenty!” Julia said smilingly.

Julia had seen Cynthia grow up, and their bond was deep. After the incident, Julia felt a great deal of pain for Cynthia but was powerless to help.

Though Cynthia still appeared to be the Jones family’s daughter she came home only once every few months. Julia could only make her favorite dessert on the rare occasions when she did return. This is property © NôvelDrama.Org.

“Thank you, Julia.” A warmth spread through Cynthia’s heart.

“Julia, what did you do? The kitchen smells awful,” Shirley said as she descended the stairs, looking down at Julia and Cynthia.

Julia hurried to explain. “Shirley, I made some durian cheese tarts that Cynthia loves. I just cleaned up; the kitchen doesn’t smell now.”

“She’s just the daughter of a murderer, not a true member of the Jones family. Julia, remember, there’s only one daughter of the Jones family, and that’s me. Do you hear me?” said Shirley.

Julia’s expression darkened. At seventy, she had raised two generations of the Jones family and had earned the respect of Justin. But ever since Shirley returned, she had treated her like dirt.

Julia remained silent, and Shirley used a commanding tone again. “Julia, throw away those disgusting things. Durian is not allowed in the Jones residence from now on.”

Julia’s voice trembled. “But these are Cynthia’s favorites.”

“Do you

still want to work here? I can fire you tomorrow,” Shirley went mad.

Tears filled Julia’s eyes, and her lips trembled slightly. She looked at Cynthia with helplessness and guilt. “Cynthia…”

Cynthia leaned closer to Julia’s ear and whispered, “Put them in my car.”

Julia nodded and left the room.

Shirley walked over to Cynthia, her expression haughty. “I heard you were suspended from RNN.”

Cynthia offered a faint smile. “It’s nice to see my sister so concerned about me.”

“I just can’t ignore it, since your scandal has been trending for days. Cynthia, don’t think you’re still a part of the Jones family. Just because you lost your job doesn’t mean you can come back and play the victim to gain sympathy from my parents,” Shirley sneered.

“They are my parents, not yours. You’re the daughter of a murderer; you don’t deserve anything good and should stay in the shadows,” she added.

Cynthia was not mad, and her smile deepened. “Why do you call me a murderer’s daughter? Compared to me, who has barely met her, you are more like Rachel’s daughter, raised by her for twenty years. You should have a deeper bond with her.”

At the mention of Rachel, Shirley was anxious. “She’s a murderer and a human trafficker. She ruined my life, which was supposed to be happy; she doesn’t deserve to be my mother.”

“So, you refuse to testify in court, letting her be convicted of intentional homicide instead of excessive self–defense, receiving a life imprisonment?” Cynthia smiled.

Shirley’s face turned pale. “What did you say?”

“Nothing.” With that, Cynthia bypassed Shirley and headed for the stairs.

But Shirley quickly caught up and boldly blocked Cynthia’s path “Cynthia, clarify what you know!”

Cynthia had indeed uncovered some things. On the night Rachel committed murder, Shirley was actually at the scene. A neighbor called the police and reported seeing the victim, Dennis Erwin,

beating Rachel and Shirley.

But by the time the police arrived, only Rachel was present with Dennis, who had been stabbed in the heart and was already dead. Rachel was charged with intentional homicide.

Yet, if the neighbor’s account was true, Rachel could have been acting in excessive self–defense. However, throughout the entire trial, Shirley had never once appeared in court to defend Rachel.

Shirley’s face turned ghostly pale, clearly flustered. She was afraid that Cynthia knew something.

But after thinking it through, she felt it was impossible. ‘If Cynthia has known, how could she have stayed silent for three years? Deep down, she must hate me just like I hate her,‘ Shirley thought.
